As some of you know I hail from the northern state, more specifically - Ketchikan, AK. Ketchikan Tours, Cruise, Travel, Fishing, Lodging, Weather, and Shopping

What I am planning is a cruise from my Home Port of Ketchikan, up through clarence straights to baranov island, stopping at various hotsprings, abandoned mines, outstanding halibut & salmon spots WAY off the tourist travel track for 7 days / nights next summer.

Growing up in the area, I am licensed 100 Ton skipper, still currently endorsed by the coast gaurd to pilot a vessel up to a 100 tons, or 25 passengers.

What me and a couple friends are planning to do is lease an off season charter / commercial fishing vessel (long range, equipped for the ocean, etc.) that can accomodate 3 - five couples, and all split the diesel, food etc. for the trip.

Unfortunately, there would not be any off road involved in this trip, but a great "Off The Map" local tour of the inside passage of southeast alaska in a remote setting where we will be self sufficient for a week to sightsee, fish, whale watch, hunt, etc.

I did this in 2003 with a family group and is was one of the best trips we had ever collectively gone on. If anyone is interested, there is two couples room available (4 people) for the trip, spliting expenses and your own travel is the only fee.

If any CSC members are interested, they will have priority before I put up an add in a month or so.

ALSO, this is SOUTHEAST Alaska, in the summer it is warm and very pleasant temperature...

appx $$ for the trip??

If the vessel I am working on comes through, and diesel stays where it is, it will probably be $95.00 a day (per person) plus plane flight of about $700.00 from az. (just gross average at the moment)

Alvin - Zoe's free. She can sleep on deck with Jaden n Preslie. We never count kids cause they usually are a given with the parents, and share the stateroom...just not wheel watches! :grinpimp:

Dates (as in when)?

We might be interested given dates etc. That is if its open to little ones, Liam would be 3 1/2 and Emma 2

Dates (as in when)?

I am working on two sets of times currently, just trying to get the boat when it is off packing season, and on short hiatus...that way the owners want the rig to keep working during off contract times. Right now the possibilities are the last week in May (which is King Salmon Season) and the second week in July.

interested as well

As things progress I will send out some Pm's with specific details, dates as mentioned above, etc.

I grew up on the deck of a fishing boat...I give my little ones every opportuntiy to experience the same. Me, my wife, and 2 & 5 year olds will be coming. As well as another couple with a 6 and 3. We just keep life jackets on them 24 / 7 and there is No Worries!

No way for May, but possibly I in July...

Very interested as long as school is out 2 adults and 1 13yr old.
How big is the vessel?

The Lynda, is a 89' tender, steel hulled rig. (1st option)

The Seven Seas is 105', classic wood port orchard sardine seiner, concerted to tender that is my second choice.

So, long story short, both are mid ocean capable, long haul vessels (I worked on both as a teenager), not small charter type inside water rigs. I dug up some pics tha other night and shared em with Brittan and Bman, I will scan em and throw em up here as sooon as I get a chance.

Sounds good!!

Update - Sorta.

Any updates?

For the last month I have looked around my office and seen more and more desks becoming permanently empty based on cut backs and "restructuring"...that being said, I have postponed all unnecessary spending plans until things change on the work front. It used to be that I had my choice of contracts to choose my own work, now I struggle to give my guys enought hours to keep together the team...

Sorry for the shortfalll on this guys...

I totally understand that!! Everyone is getting slow these days.

Plans back on for June 2009

Would there be any interest in dragging this subject up again? It looks like I will have to go up regardless for family reasons this summer, so I am going to start to plan on making this trip a reality again for the end of June.
Would still be interested in at least another couple (+/- kids) coming along with us for the trip. I am starting the process over again with setting up a boat currently, and want to have some more details hammered out in the next couple of weeks.
Just to confirm, we are lookin at 6 days / nights under way.

I cant but I can tell you that last July I went to to Ketchikan, then flew in a float plane to Whale pass lodge (first time in Alaska) and did both deep sea fishing and some fresh water fly fishing and it was something Ill never forget. The game everywhere is plentiful - whales, bald eagles, moose - and the scenery is constantly taking your breath away. If anyone is toying with the idea, take advantage and you wont be dissapointed!
