I am currently preparing my vehicle for the trip to Morocco. However, since the original air filter box is on the other side of the engine bay, I can't use it and will probably just scrap the idea of using it. There's just no way to neatly route a 76mm (3") pipe to the other side.

Which air filter box or air filter system should I consider?
Perhaps something from Donaldson?
I'm concerned that the current "sport filter" doesn't actually filter anything and I want to avoid that. It is basically on just for a few test drives.

Sweet engine bay.. what model vehicle is this, and what engine is that? Guard mounted Donaldson always looks sweet and there's good availability of filters around the world.

your on the right track, donaldson or another factory air cleaner is a good way to go. try to catch some colder air if possible.

its a Mercedes OM606.

Thanks!
It's a freshly built Mercedes OM606 in a Nissan Patrol Y61.

I have around 25x35x35 cm (~10"x13"x13") of space inside the engine bay.
What Donaldson filter should I be looking at that would move enough air?

Donaldson with cylindrical element. They do a great job of throwing out dust before the filter and you can easily clean the elements.
The Donaldson Powercore isn't as good for servicability and can't really be cleaned.

I have a Donaldson FPG082526 and it would be ~35cm long, 23cm diameter plus brackets and inlet. There are other models with different inlet positions etc. Flow wise it's going to be big enough for ~200kw on a diesel.

I am supposedly looking at 350-400 HP (haven't had the car on the dyno, so I don't really know).
Would the Donaldson FPG082526 cause choking?
Because the dimensions are spot on.

200kw is 268HP so it could be a restriction. 400whp I think is pretty overrated for a OM606 in a truck without compound or sequential turbos. It does come with quite a bit of lag.

The FPG082526 has a inner and outer filter. Removing the inner (safety) filter gets you more flow. The Donaldson ratings are also conservative. Also. Those with the OM engines tend to run really hot/smokey tunes. 200kw clean is probably more air than 400hp drift tune.

Your alternative is the next size up and start moving things to make more room.

Yes, I was thinking 350-400 engine HP, which could very well (most likely) be less than 268 wheel HP.
But as said - I have no clue what HP the engine produces, as I hadn't been on a dyno. Those number are just my guesswork and could be completely wrong.

I guess I'll try the FPG082526.
The ~200kW rating is with both the inner and outer filter elements installed?

Airflow numbers all depend what pressure drop you're willing to put up with.

I don't know if the airflow rating will be compatible with your engine but I really like the round OE Cyclonic airfilters on the 100 series and most LC's prior. The cyclonic action is basically a non-restrictive pre filter that drops the larger particles into a catch-can that can be emptied. The 100 series came with different filters that corresponded to the engine choice but I would guess either the 2UZ-FE or 1HD-FTE would have the highest flow requirements. The filter is rather large though and you would have to move something to make it work.

all the 2uz trucks I've seen had panel filters.

Yes, it didn't come on US vehicles. I sourced one from Australia. Same airbox as pictured. The OP is from Slovenia and so maybe possible to source.

The donaldson filters separate dust the same way but are longer cylinders and sometimes easier to fit.

That would be perfect as it opens from the top.
Can you measure the diameter of the airbox for me, please?

Anyone? 🙏
I found one used, but would like to confirm the dimensions (diameter of it, primarily) to confirm it will fit.

Sorry, I'm not near my 100 at the moment. Maybe Friday.
