Let me say in advance, excuse me if this is a dumb question.

But I've been doing some reading on air shocks. Specifically, Fox 2.0/5's. What would happen if I took the OME shocks off, replaced them with air shocks and put in a adjustable air controller for each shock.

At times I would like to have an extra 2-3" of lift on the trail, without hyperextenting the springs, sometimes I wan't to be low to the ground without scraping the rocks as possible, not talking low rider, just back to OME 850/860 height.

Sometimes I want the front tire to be able to catch the weight with a little more stiffness in the off camber situations.

I've they have load limits, and from what I read they don't dampen as good as a "regular" shock, but I'm not running baja.

I've seen the airbag spring replacement system online. Not looking for such a radical adjustment. Just a little bit of help once in a while. I'd like +2" but not all of the time.

Blast away!!!!

It won't work for a number of reasons. The addition of airbags would be simple easy and fairly cheep if you already have on board air.

Or you can learn to drive :flipoff2:

Like the guy we were following last weekend with the 54" tires and a 502.

If my 80 was on 4d's, life would be simplier. But it's not.

I do have on board air.

I don't want to go full porn star, I just want a couple of inches once in a while. Not hardcore enough?

You would have to carry a nitrogen source, filling them with air is not a good idea. When you let nitrogen out to lower the truck you will spray oil. I also thought they needed higher pressures to work properly, the article below corrected my suspicion.

Good article for you:

I personally don't like complex solutions to simply problems.

I read an article that briefly touched on the nitrogen aspect of the setup. I still wasn't exactly sure what the nitrogen had to do it it. I was envisioning the old style air shocks, like my buddy had on rear of his nova. But more modern.

I'll read the pirate article. Thanks for the link.

Edit:
I've now read the pirate article. My questions are answered. I'll keep searching

Those old shocks have no movement and they suck, Use the air bags and be done if this is what you are trying to do. Sound like you need to get another rig and park the 80 and move up to the other side. Following 4d's in an 80 means the 80 will be no more even if you did know how to wheel in a few months and if you are able to keep up them you are holding them back worrying about your 80. Get a mini you can bash and pull with the 80......I have been down this road with a dodge.....
