I was driving my 40 on the highway today, going around 60, maybe even pushed it to 63mph:doh: and I heard a gust of wind coming above my windshield frame and below hardtop. This has never happened before, it went away after a minute or so, but I can still feel some cold airflow through there.
I have a 78 fj40, I dont know if hard top has been off or not. Ive had it for 8 months or so, drive it all the time, but have never noticed this. I did search and couldnt find anything, I am sure its out there though. Probably just the seal is going bad, but does anyone know a way to fix it without taking the hard top off? Its getting cold so I dont really want any MORE drafts.

Thanks!!:)

Jon

Purchase the correct gasket/seal/weather-strip for between the top of the windshield frame and hardtop, install it, and make sure that the bolts that secure the front lip of the hard top to the windshield frame are installed.

In order to install this properly, you will need to at least lift the top off the truck enough to install this gasket.

I would not simply try and seal this with clear silicone...

Thanks for the help. I should of thought of the silicone, I will give that a try, then do it right next summer. Thanks:beer:

I had problems with the stock gasket, I have a fibreglass windshield frame. I run with no top from April to October, so it's on and off once a year. I took some black foam insulation tape, sticky on one side, put that inside the roof channel, then once the roof is on, used , don't laugh, white duct tape to just cover the seam by 1/4'. It matches the white top, is hidden under the eyebrow, and seals against all air drafts...and no silicone to cleran up when the roof comes off....

you dont' have to remove the hardtop to put a new seal in, but dang close. loosen it enough that you can lift it a couple inches.

Zekester I like the foam and duct tape approach, no cleanup. Thanks!
