hi again, ill like to install an air intake system in my 97 land cruiser, what im looking for it is one that gives me the more hp and more mpg. at the same time one that in a future i can connect a snorkel to. any page where i can look for?

Stock air filter / cleaner assembly is REAL good. I wouldn't mess with it. It can flow more air than your engine can.

Only way you could make it more free flowing is to remove it entirely.

In my opinion, air intake mods for performance are a waste of time, and certainly not practical on a 4wd. It's ok with cars, you can add a k&n type filter, but with the pipe routing required for a snorkel the benefits are lost.

Stick with the stock set up and spend your time and money on a supercharger and free flowing exhaust.

so you think think that a snorkel will help? cuz i was reading and everybody say that snorkel wont help the fuel efficiency wich is what im really looking for.

There is nothing short of an engine conversion that will give a decent mpg gain. But at the point of an engine conversion the money spent on actually doing it will far outweigh the actual mpg gain. Super or turbo charging will give the best mpg increase, but it's still only 15 percent or so at best so it never works out to be economical (certainly works out to be fun though)

What most of us do is run a second small (and cheap) car and keep the cruiser for weekends and going on vacation.
In the long run it doesn't work out a whole lot cheaper, but when living on a budget and travelling a fair distance for work or whatever it makes it easier to 'have your cake and eat it'

Snorkle does absolutely nothing for MPG gain.

While the econo box is the best way, you can see some small MPG gains by running premium and advancing the timing (to about 5-7 degrees).

The biggest MPG difference I've seen so far was driving style. After installing an UltraGauge in the :princess: truck and having it show real time MPG and average MPG, she slowed down and MPG went from about 11 to 14. That's in town mileage with almost zip freeway.

If you really drove like an old lady, no reason you couldn't hit 16 MPG around town. 16+ freeway (only) is easily doable.

Heck, before I put incredibly heavy 37's on I was getting 13 MPG in my truck (lifted, lightly armored, 35's). Now with 37's it's dropped to about 10.

X10 what everyone else has said
I would stick with a OEM filter as well, washable and reusable
The K&N filters are not that great, they are oiled, never really liked it my other truck that I had

thank you guys again and what i probably do is get the snorkel even though i t wont help me with the mpg and beside that ill by a OME air filter and probably in a future get a borla exhaust system

Correct... with one fix ;) and one sidenote why snorkel? (unless intending on using for deep water), seems a little conter productive adding more blockage outside the truck. May as well add a rack too :P

i cant deny that the snorkels look bad ass on the 80's. i plan on getting one in the next few months. i dont do tons of water crossings, but id like to. and many of the trails and dirt roads i drive on during the summer tend to be extremly dusty and powdery. having the snorkel and flipping the head around should keep my filter and engine clean and happy.
