So I got Will's welding tank re filled today. Stopped by Sierra Welding supply FIRST cuz I like those guyz. They have always been great to me and hooked me up with deals when they can.
Last time I had the tank filled from them it was around 50 bucks (IIRC).
I had to go to air gas. They charged 70 for the tank and the guy "took 10 bucks off" for me.

Nice enough guy and all, but OUCH!!!

Ill stick with Sierra from now on.

I can't remember what Praxair charged, but it has been since last summer. Next time I'll call around first.

Really?!? That little machine EATS the gas. I burned through a tank and a half in the short time I had it.

I'll stick with Sierra welding supply from now on.

However... That thing made sheet metal work MUCH more tolerable, so it was worth the expense in gas. :)

What type of gas are you getting Keith? A 40CF tank with 75/25 at praxair is well under $50.... I cant remember exactly what I pay, but I exchange my tanks out over there and its no where near $50. More like half that...

Same stuff. As I recall the last time I filled that tank with Sierra it was 46 or 50 bucks.
If praxair is even cheaper.... Im considering getting a tank for sheet metal use. That made all the difference for the work I did with Wills welder.
For everything else, Ill stick with flux core, though.

What size tanks are you all comparing?

$20.56 + tax to exchange out a 40cf argon co2 tank at Praxair. You're getting hosed at sierra Keith!

Well, the obvious problem is I haven't had time to weld jack shtuff...

Nor have you had a welder!:)

How much are they selling the tanks for?
Where is this place?

I'm down for a better deal, that's for sure!!!

Im a big fan of Praxair. Ken has always taken good care of my father and I.

Praxair is behind the JC Penny outlet on Glendale and McCarren.
Nice guys, I get my exchange CO2 tanks from them.

was your tank out of date? Usually they charge 25$ if it's over 10 years on the date stamp, but if they just filled yours something is off..

Nope. Not out of date. I had just exchanged it about a month or two before. Won't be going back, that's for sure. I thought that was exceptionally high. Not that I have a whole lot of experience with tanks as I usually run flux core, but.... Since it was so much less at Sierra I had a better idea.

I'll check out praxair though.

I cant remember if I have a 40cf or 70cf bottle of argon/co2, (scuba tank sized) but Praxair was in the low $40 range last time I filled it. I always go to them.

For straight co2 fills, Crystal Ice on 4th near keystone has got to be the cheapest. It was $5 to fill a #5 bottle last time I was there.

So that sounds about what sierra charges. The tank I'm using is about 4 ft tall, so I'm guessing that would be the 70 tank???
Still air gas was out there.
Good tip on the co2.

Buyer beware on the Crystal Ice place. Several years ago they overpressurized/overfilled my 10# CO2 tank. Cost me $40 to have it recerted at ABC. And they wouldn't cover my costs. So eff them!
