Guys,

My first post around here.

I'm usually at Mbworld.org under the AMG 211 and 203 sections.

Both of my cars are slightly modded and have some nice easy upgrades.

When purchasing my LC200 for my wife and 3 boys, I wanted something rare, great quality and not too flashy. So I bought my LC exactly 1 year ago at a nearby Toyota Dealer.

Back to my topic:

In AMG's, specially newer models. Its common to remove the carbon filter thats located inside the airboxes. This has proven to add over 10hp and tq in via dyno testing.

I can post a link if somebody wishes to see our post at MBWorld.org.

I have done most of my services with my personal mechanic. I only use Mobil 1 5*20 and buy my own oil filters. I have not yet replaced the air filter but often inspect it. I'm probably going with a TRD.

Open your air box and remove the hard filter stuck to the top of the lid. Use a regular screw driver and becareful of the plastic taps.

Anyhow.. results are good so far. A bit more engine growl and on the highway it pulls just a bit nicer. Carbon filters are more for emissions purposes and not really any added benefit I don't believe.

Also, I mostly run 91 oct here is So Cal and I believe this engine is tuned for 87oct. As for most modern engines.. ECU adapt to the extra octain and is able to increase timing. Letting more air wont' hurt one bit.

My next mod is probably a mild muffler and DVD playback on my Nav system.

BTW: I do have 20" toyota sequoia Limited rims. They have a dark gray trim and they are machine polished. Truck looks way better. 275/55/20 OEM tires. Paid $1200 on craigslist.

If you want pics.. please email me at joecordero76@yahoo.com and somebody can post them. Resolution is bad on these forums.

I still would like to see a nice tune to this great engine and maybe a way to flash the ECU via hand held tuner.

With the new Qx56 around, is nice to have extra power to pass if needed.

btw: My E55 is about 480+RWHP with simple stage 1 mods. Dyno was taken 2 year ago. Since then I have a few more mods than have slightly increased that figure.

That used to be my wife's daily driver until the LC200. She is used to having a car that can move.

But at the same time, the LC is just an awesome truck. It does EVERYTHING we ask it to do. Luxury, Performance, and Utility.

enough.. for tonight.

thanks,

-Joe

Hey Joe, welcome and thanks for posting. This is a common mod on the Tundra, which is Land Cruiser based. I use the stock filter as cotton gauze filters let too much dust in. I have a new TRD filter I'll sell you, if still interested.

Since you like high powered supercharged vehicles, you may like to know Toyota's TRD division offers an Eaton TVS Intercooled Supercharger for the 5.7 in the TUndra (same unit used on the C6 Corvette). UNFORTUNATELY, they have yet to offer it for the 200. The big deal with fitting it is a flash for the ECU, which one gets right at the Toyota Dealer as part of the Tundra kit, and probably some external fit up parts. Specs are 504hp and 550 tq at the crank, that grows to 520+ with an exhaust. The Tundra retains the factory warranty with the kit...

Supposedly the firewall.

any word on the 91 octane vs 87...

The LX570 requires 91 (premium) and the LC requires 87 Octane I believe.

Has the Tundra guys proven higher octane yield extra power.

I can feel 87 it feels torque comes in sooner, but top end is not as strong.

The opposite for 91.. torque is not as strong, but revs build quickly and stronger on top.

just my observation in the past year.

We use 91 or 89 most of the time.

Hello, I am tempted to do this. You mention a gain of 10hp on the AMG engine. How many hp gain would we see on a 5.7L V8?

Also, how many miles have you driven with this mod on the LC200 without any issues?

quick update.

My latest mods are:

Removed the secondary cats from the exhaust
added k&N drop in filter.

Mods were done in stages.

first the exhaust to see how much more sound I would get. Sure enough, you can't hardly tell. It passed 'the wife' test, she drove it and could not tell the difference.

Only after 3K rpms, you get a nicer deeper growl, but still way too quiet compared to my old 04 Nissan Armada 5.6 v8.

Next I added the air filter. $56 at Orilley's.

The extra air coming in and the better flow, makes a good combo. Response is much quicker and exhaust note gets nicer again after 3k rpms .

I would say, this should yield some power on the higher end of the rpm while keeping the back pressure on the lower rpms.

Last I will remove the post muffler, the last muffler behind the rear bumper. It seems it just acts like a last attempt to keep the 5.7L muted.

I'm trying to avoid switching the muffler, since its my wife's truck and we use it on our trips. Last thing I want is drone for 5 hrs.

So far, its perfect!

I also went with ceramic pads (Akebono).. they are working well. Less dust and no noise.
