When i turn my dial to min, 60 degrees, the air coming out of the grill is a bit colder than outside air, but it really never gets cold. Suspect there may be a leak somewhere, because its been getting worse over the last two weeks. Does it need a freon fill ever - its never been done in 16 years.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help.

IF there is not a leak in your system, then no....there is never a need for refrigerant fill. 'Freon'/refrigerant is not a 'consumable' (like engine oil). But it can (and does) leak past connections and around seals...over time.

The quickest and BEST way to tell the condition of the refrigerant charge is to put a set of gauges on it. NOT look at the damn sight glass....as someone is going to suggest no sooner than I post this. :(

There are a multitude of reasons why your A/C unit might not be working correctly. IF you suspect a low refrigerant charge we can get you started on things to look at, but honestly....if you are not going to do the work yourself, you might as well just take it in to a good A/C shop.

They will be able to tell you quickly...what the deal is.
