Hello everybody
I am doing a bit of investment in my HDJ100 4.2. I am based in Europe and would like to avoid shipping from Oz or US which adds quite some costs & customs fees.
I am considering what to do with my rear spring to reduce pressure on AHC. Springs are 10 yo. I see 3 options and would like to get opinions on what to do:
1) purchase Toyota springs to replace rears: Left and right have different part numbers are they really different ? that option looks a tad expensive
2) buy AHC compatible aftermarket. I can see Suplex has a reference, is that a good product ? They are sold as pair and look same so a bit confused with 1)
3) just add a 30mm spacer in the back. Looks like the cheap option. Any downside ?

I am planning to keep my LC100

Thanks for your help

I didn't look into aftermarket springs for AHC. I did buy LC AHC springs for my 2000 LX. Also put spacers in. With both, I think I am over sprung a little, but it rides really nice with a trailer or loaded up in the back.

I have a '01 LX and recently added on King Springs - bought off ebay. Just had a shop build and add on a Front and rear bumper with sliders and the springs are carrying the load very well. Not sure if they are offered in the EU.

I had 30mm Man-A-Fre spacers installed with new OEM AHC coil springs about a year ago. Also had the AHC front/rear pressures dialed in to @PADDO specs after the new springs/spacers were added. Fantastic improvement to overall ride quality.

Make sure you get AHC springs, normal LC springs won't work.

As I see it, you have two choices.
Either get the longest OE AHC springs, e.g. ordered through mAmayama. The two longest ones are:
48231-6A770 W(ACTIVE HEIGHT CONTROL); H=485, PURPLE PAINTED, RH
48231-6A780 W(ACTIVE HEIGHT CONTROL); H=500, BROWN PAINTED, LH
The difference between left & right is not critical. Some LC100/LX470 came from the factory with the same coil on L & R, while others came with a longer one on the left. The cruisers (at least the 80 and 100) are slightly heavier on the left. The fuel tank is a bit lefty, and with the driver as well, it adds up. Anyhow, the difference is not more than what the adjustable torsion springs can compensate for. So, you can go with two brown springs, or a purple on the right, if you like.
I put one of each of the two above on 2 years ago, and the ahc pressure was near maximum from day 1. A friend put on two brown ones, and is also at the upper end of the scale, but had no problem with adjusting the left/right lean. (It is only the torsion bars which adjust the left/right balance, the ahc itself has no effect here)

The other option is to get King Springs KTRS-79, which are too stiff for an empty, stock LC100. So these are for the case that you have added permanent weight. With an empty car, the ahc pressure will be too low for a good damping from the built-in shock absorber function.

Ok thanks. I think I will get 2 of the brown one. Mine is a RHD so I guess less of a problem being heavier on one side.
