I am looking at replacing the rear coils on a current model TD LC 100 fitted with AHC. My understanding is that the standard fitted coils (with AHC) are lighter than the standard LC coils because of the assistance given to the suspension by the shockers. My preference, first up, would be to replace the coils with standard LC coils and not the uprated (eg TJM or ARB that add another 100kgs to the carrying capacity over standard coils). My guess is that the AHC coils are derated about 100kgs. If I replace them with normal uprated coils I may have trouble sorting the Height/load parameters of the AHC. Thus, the question is, what are the standard AHC coils rated at? I have tried Toyota but I'm not holding my breath in terms of expecting an answer.

For 100 series turbo diesel

OME 860 ......38.5Nm.....medium load
OME 863 ......44.0Nm.....Constant 200kg Load to GVM
OME 864 ......56.0Nm.....Constant 400kg Load to GVM
Original OE coil rate 25.5Nm
Info from OME and Cruiser Outfitters
I have a pair of original OE springs
I sent you a private message a few weeks back, have a read and maybe we can combine the discussion.

Dinibili, this all goes back to the pressure in the AHC rear. That should dictate what coils to use with your load. So if you have a rear bar, tire carrier, etc., you should test the AHC pressure in the rear and see if it's in spec. If not, you select new coils to get you into the spec'd pressure range. Ditto with the front t-bars (manual says to adjust the t-bars to give you pressure that's in-spec, but if you have a winchbar, winch, etc., the stock AHC bars probably are too thin; probably need stock LC w/ no AHC bars). Otherwise, if the AHC pressure is too high (there's a sensor), it'll shut the AHC off.

Do the AHC rigs in Oz have sub-tanks? I wonder if the coils are the same as the ones w/o sub-tanks?

Interesting thread.
Dinibili, keep us posted re your progress.

All australian 100 series have subtanks IIRC
145 litres (95 main/50 subtank) Diesel
141 litres (96 main/45 subtank) Petrol and Turbo Diesel

The OE you have specifiied I assume is the standard LC? The coils on the Sahara are I am sure lighter than standard fare. The reason I am chasing thisd info is that my vehicle with an ARB Delux front bar, 12000lb winch ARB rear bar a wheel carrier has added about 220kgs. When I place 100kg on the ball and two passengers it takes about 5 goes to get the height back up to normal. If I add another person the AHC will sometimes drop to L and require me to stop and reraise the vehicle again about 4 or five goes. ie start engine , vehicle
raises slightly then stops, restart vehicle raises slightly more stops etc. My hope is to put slightly heavier coils may be another 100kg above what is there currently. I don't want to raise the vehicle above its normal height. In terms of your private response, not quite sure what you mean. I am a bit new to this game!

Because of where I am (on an island in the middle of Bass Strait), I don't have easy access to various coil of different specs. I am trying to get a educated guess before swapping the coils. Once I can whittle down the choices I will fit and play with the pressures as appropriate. I am assuming that the coils are in fact lighter. They are truly puny!
Thanks

Hey Dinibili,

If you have a look up on the right side of the page you will see where it says "Welcome dinibile" under that "you last visited etc etc" and under that in brown/mud/orange "Private Messages"
If you click on "Private messages" it will take you to a new screen and you will see your private messages Inbox, with some messages in it. Click on the message to open the message up, same as email really, but within IH8MUD for members to send messages to each other.

So it looks like you need the specs on various coils (length, compression [kg/cm]) and select one that compensates for the extra weight in the rear that you'll have all the time (i.e., bar, wheel carrier).
