I have a 2000 100-series, and I'm looking to replace the 'stock' tires w/ something slightly aggressive. Suggestions?? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the board!

Soooo many good A/T's out there now. You'll hear a bit of everything. All of which your 100 will be able to ring the best out of. 285/75R16's are the most common step up. Also, here's a thread I did many moons ago when I had the same quesitons. I've tried to update it as time goes by: https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/5562-lx470-tire-upgrade.html

I like the Revo's, BFG AT's and am hearing really good things about the Goodyear DuraTracs. (They seem to be soup de jour and I can't wait for some long term results.)

What are you trying to do with your truck?

Thanks for the welcome!

I basically want a semi-aggressive look; nothing too crazy. BFGs A/Ts may be the way to go; I just wanted to get a feel for what other people were riding on. As with any 'grips', I'm sure there's to be a MPG loss. Any thoughts on that? I'm not really looking to go bigger, just more grip than 'stock.' Tks

Go all the way or go home... LOL

I am a fan of Nitto Terra Grapplers for AT style that are in my opinion a bit better in sloppy stuff if you ever find yourself there by accident while giving great performance on highway.

On the other end of spectrum I am a BFG KM2 or Nitto Trail Grappler guy....ran KM2 on my FJ60 and running Trail Grapplers on my LX470.

I do 5 tire rotation and have about 25-30k miles on current set with about half tread remaining but expect them to start wearing more the further it goes. The Nittos are really heavy as they are built very solid with thick sidewalls...this does impact mileage a bit more than average offroad tire so something to consider.

Alot of great thread links. Thanks! Love 'the dude', btw. On a side note - he's gonna be in BR in a few weeks for a screening and Q&A of TBL. Should be a good night.

What about price.... Coopers, BFGs, Nittos, etc. (ATs) - do they all run around the same for comparable sizes?

(In the 285/75r16 size)

AT tires:

Nitto terra Grappler: $219-224 per tire

Bfg All terrain: $222-270 per tire

Goodyear Duratrac: $242-276 per tire

Cooper ST maxx: $216-220 per tire

Mud Terrains...

Nitto Trail grappler: around $290 per tire

Bfg km2: around $280 per tire

those are some estimates from the web, you might find better

Go with with the Duratrac and don't settle for paying retail on any tire !

1 vote for the Falken Rocky Mountain ATS

So are you going for looks alone, NTTAWWT?

What kind of driving do you think you will be doing?
Forest service roads?
Trips to the ski slopes?
Fire roads?
Baja?

The best tire for you will depend on what you want to do with the truck.

TA DAAA.....maybe :meh:

BFG Rugged Terrain.....less aggressive than the AT, still looks really good in person and comes in the stock size

How about Kelly Safari TSR? Google "kelly tsr review" and there are tons of great reviews on this tire. I've been eyeing it for a year now, just waiting for my old a/t's to wear out. People say it's a very quiet tire and tread wear is great. Looks a bit more aggressive than some A/T's and would fair better in the mud.
The downside may be in a 285/75/16 it's only avail in an 8 ply load range E which makes for heavier/stiffer tire.

Anybody else have issues with BFG A/T's hydroplaning? Don't know if there is any truth to it, but I've heard due to the "enclosed" tread pattern the water has nowhere to go. I know they are very very popular and are a great looking tire, just have heard mixed reviews on water handling.

Nope.
My BFG ATs do great with standing water. I have heard they don't eject mud/heavy snow well, but haven't experienced that for myself. Outstanding all-around tire.

Hankook Dynapro ATMs

I'll probably go with these (Hankook Dynapro ATMs).

I am running a set of these in 285 70 r17 on my Ram 2500 and they are quite nice ...

I just put a set of these on my 100 285/75/16 they have been great so far, the only thing I wished I had done was gotten them siped maybe next time I rotate them I will. Here is a pic.

Had the BFG A/T's on several rides and never had any hydroplaning issues here in Georgia. When it rains here, it rains. Except when we're having a drought....
