Well my SBC had a tapping that started above idle and sounded just like a lifter tapping ( I would have bet money on it). I decided to adjust the lifters but before I started I got out the stethascope to figure about which one it was. Glad I did because I traced it down to the fuel pump. Sounded like it was comming from the top end though. Changed the pum and no more tap. Im sure some of you know about the pumps but for those who dont you might check your pump first.
