I thougth I would put a new thread on here announcing that we have finished the roll bar pads for the FJ40 Stock Tube Bar but I have some questions at the end.

They look just like the OEM's but have a higher tensile and tear strength as well as better abrasion resistance. I designed the chemistry after the characteristics wanted from this forum.

They bolt (Screw actually) to existing pattern.

The pads are priced very reasonable as I've seen one used pad go for 1/2 to 2/3 of what we are marketing the set. The set comes with 4 pads: 2 arch and 2 rear straight pads along with 10 pan head screws. Screws are similiar to the OEM but without the washer on there. Still working on the bracket pads.

Domestic Shipping is included in the pricing. Canada I will ship to but you need to contact me through the web-site fj40dash.com (Please don't PM here as it may be a couple of days before I get back on here.)

I hope you all enjoy them.

TECH HISTORY QUESTION : What year did they start putting the pads on the Stock Tube Bar? I have seen earlier 40's that do not have a Tube Bar but it seems that all the newer ones have a bar. Did they put the pads on the bar when they brought the bar out? Was it an option? Was the bar always available as an option and then became standard?

See photos below for reference.

Nice!

These look great and seem reasonably priced. Congratulations on what appears to be a very cool product.

Did the curve pads use two or three screws stock? I only remember two. Either way these look like a nice option for replacement. The pads on the bracket were a later thing. 79 maybe 78. The ones you have made were standard on all rollbars imported to the US starting with the 74 model.

Quick thread hijack.

I was installing my pads last night after being off for a while.

There is definitely an up and down to the pads that go behind the head on the cross bar. Does the thick part go up or down?

On both my 40's and I'm assuming the pads had never been taken off as I busted a couple of screws doing so, the thick part goes on top. When we mold ours we have a thick and thin just like OEM (You might be able to see in the picture the thick on top) and that's why I put the letters "UP" on the backside of the pad. Hope that helps you out.

I did notice on the OEM's they had what appears to be a paint pencil marking on the backside of the arch pads a "R" and a "L". I have one right junction pad that Eddy is referencing above. Toyota molded in a R on the backside of it. I am still looking for a Left side if anyone out there has one. I really never knew they existed until Sea Knight got me started on this project.

I wanted to say something on the pricing of our products. We try to be decent and not gouge anyone on pricing. (Some may think otherwise) However, I mention that because I anticipate price increases later this year or first part of next year and thus our price will increase as well. In my years in the petrochemical business I have yet to see my pricing go down. Every year and sometimes three to four times a year, I get one excuse or another on why raw material suppliers must increase their prices......They tie it to hurricanes, oil price increase, too many bunnies in the forest. Yet, when the issue such as oil drops back down my raw material costs never do.
