I'm really glad I've come across this thread tonight, it's encouraging to see all the collaboration, and all the doors God's been opening. I'll definitely keep this project in my prayers as best as possible.

We just had an OME Lift kit arrive- Heavy Duty Diesel

We got a set of Super Swamper’s (4)

Last night our winch from Maine and Split Rims from MA were loaded on a truck bound for the shop in TX. The split rims need to be wire brushed!
 
Finally, After 8 weeks of waiting, bearings from Japan come across the Ocean. For the last 3 months, no one has had Koyos or NSK's. This is one of the last things we are waiting for before we can put a big dent in the installation.
 
Question regarding dust covers: My thought is that they will be totally useless as they will just pack out with mud. I am thinking of modifying them to hold the brake line and thats it. Anyone have experience with this?

yup did it to my 60 and my buddy did it to his 62...
just cut the sheilded part off but leave the spot for the bolt holes as it acts as a spacer then leave enough material to support the brake line and your good.
ive had mine through some really nasty mud and had no issues, and i have noticed alot less rocks gettin stuck around my brakes now after playin in deep mud.

Were trying to build it as stupid proof as possible.

Yeah, I cut them on Monday. They came out really well. I had to modify them anyway cause of V6 calipers so it made sense. My dog chewed up my camera cord or I would have already posted pics...

This is a very cool thing you are doing.
So I understand that there is a lot of theft (out of necessity) and I am thinking that they will most likely steel the 60 and then part it out? Have you thought about running the ground cable under the dash hooking it up to a heavy duty military style switch and running it back out? Time is of the essence in theft and I doubt anyone would look under the dash for a switch. Also most would try to hotwire the vehicle and without a proper ground you wont be able to. I did this on my 40 as our cruisers (any older style) are so easy to break into.
Also not sure if you are steadfast on the 33" tires, but if you are looking for 7.50x16 then consider the Hercules HDT Bias Ply.

My son and I just picked up a 62 for him so I've been cruising this side of MUD lately. I just found this thread and man this is a great thing you guys are doing. I just wish I had something to offer... I have a logistics background but it appears this has already been covered. So I'll be sending funds instead.

BTW, not sure if it is just me, but none of the pics are viewable....

Apparently, when the MUD server went down, it dumped ALL the pics... So here we go, again...

'I discovered my wife's laptop has a spot to stick a SD card into, so I was able to pull the pics. This is the work from the last 10-12 days.

"My father in law (also a missionary in West Africa who used in own an HZJ78) said he had seen axles snap where they neck down into the knuckle-ball so we went ahead and got the Marlin gussets.

Pic 1. Cut the old brake line bracket off and flap wheeled for welding

"Pic 1. Pic of what Trent and I were talking about. Trimmed the Dust covers so its only purpose is to hold the brake line now. They came out rather well all things considered; Plasma cutter and some flap wheel action and they were ready for paint.

Pic 2. Side one done. All new everything; disks, V6 calipers, brake lines, etc, etc, etc.

"Pic 1. Optima sold us two Yellow tops for an EXTREMELY cheap price. Ruff Stuff Specialties sold us two battery trays for an EXTREMELY cheap price too. Thanks to both those companies for their help in this project.

Pic 2. The meats; I know there have been several debates going back and forth about what tires we should use. We have decided on the Bogger 33X10.50R16. We got these at cost through Longview Driveshaft and 4X4. Thanks to those guys too!"
