Hi from Greece.
I need a family truck for off -roading and long trips. After examining some Land Rovers I didnt feel so "secure" about buying one due to poor reliability issues. So now ,I' m seriously thinking of buying an LC 80 .
There are too many series 90 here but very few 80s.
I found one,it came from US and was abandoned here for sale.
It has service book, only 61.000 real miles,A/C,ESP,2 air bags, cruise control, and as I saw on the photos no factory lockers. It has a 4.0 petrol engine.

It is said to be in very good condition,it was in a garage for 5 years here in Greece, the owner's relatives here were operating the truck from time to time in the garage. The last 8 months it was delivered to a car dealer to sell it.
From its licence the first registration is June 1996.
I know that from 95 and up the Toyota Logo was replaced by the Toyota sign ,I told that the dealer but he told me that first registration is 6/96.
I will need your help on this.Maybe you can identify the model, year, some opinons about its condition from what you see in the photos, and some advise if possible.
The dealer told me that he will do a complete service before it delivers the truck to me in case I decide to buy it.It will only need a new timing belt and new oil everywhere.
He is asking for 14.000 USD.
It seems high but again I m not familiar with Land Cruisers apart from what I ve read in here about their exceptional reliability and off-road performance.
Here are the photos

It is older than a 1995, I think 1991-92 had the 4.0 liter, and $14,000 sounds very expensive.
I would shop around some more. Welcome to the forum.

Most likely a pre- '94, if it's a US market vehicle, going by wheel style, emblems, and dash.

x2 - Looks a lot older. Looks like 91-94 dash, and aside from that guessing a 91 based on the air control, not lockers, front grill saying "toyota", and "stated 4.0". Pop the hood and see if it is r12 for AC, or ODB1, or 3FE engine.

Sound extremley high by US prices lately, but not sure over there.

Those are 15" Toyota alloy wheels and heater controls are different than my '94. The grill is '91 - '94 and it has the 3rd row seat belts and opening rear windows, but the seat brackets have been removed. X2 on the 4 liter engine, so I'd say it's a '91 or '92, if I were to guess. What's the manufacturing date on the door plate?

I ll check the manufacturing date, engine type or maybe get a VIN number and I ll be back.I cant acrually see the truck cause its far away from where I live, but I can ask.

Thanks for the replies till now.

Looks like a US spec 1991 80 series. I believe the only difference between and 1991 and 1992 USA 80 is that the 1992 had privacy glass.

Price sounds way too high. BTW the truck your looking at does NOT have airbags. Your post states that it does. Engine in that truck is the 3FE. Lots of info on this site about the pros and cons of that powerplant. 1993 was the first year for the 4.5l inline six for the US market.

And by the way, that truck does not have a timing belt..

Pete

ok,first of all, thank you again for your help.I called the dealer today.
New info is that the truck was imported from Canada, and has the following :

VIN No : JT3FJ80W2M0009965

Engine No : 3F0281165

What can you tell from the above ?
I would search it myself but again I m not familiar with LCs.

I can find very good Prados here with the 3.4L engine but I dont like the IFS set up.Been there, broke it many times, did a SAS.ok,Suzuki IFS is not as tough as the Toy IFS,but I know that I would try to do a SAS on the Prado as well.Lack of free time and work obligations are my enemies on this,SAS bolt on(or almost bolt on) kits are not available in the market for the Prado as far as I know,so the 80 is the best choice for me.The problem is that there are very few here available and most owners dont sell them.I can do a SAS on the Prado but I would like to avoid it for now.

Thank you

Looks great, I have two 80's it might be in excellent condition but still an old 91-92 FJ80. I have two of those, one I bought it for $6000.00 USD and 52000 miles. Excellent shape. Never seen off road until I drove it. The only way I would pay (maybe) 14 grand :eek:is that the 80 is diesel, again, maybe. The most I'd pay, 4-5 thousand.
BTW, they are very reliable
:bounce:

Well he wont go lower than 10.000 USD.
And if its a 1991 model, then for sure 10K are too much.
