Trying to figure out which route to go. Garage is pretty well packed with crap and tools. It's 20x24 attached and houses all my projects and work area. I had pretty much given up on the thought of getting a lift some day, but someone I know just told me for $350 I could have his 7k lb mid rise. This would meet like 80-90% of anything I'd ever do. I won't have an 80 any more, so it would just be the 45 and the cars. It would be a bitch to do exhaust work etc, but since it's cheap and would meet most of the needs I'm trying to figure out if I should pull the trigger or wait and go full size (or possibly just miss out and never get one). The niggling feeling in the gut is I've bought so much stuff and hardly ever get a chance to use it like the welders, lathe, mill, press and all the other crap out in the garage right now. Me gottum some extra cash right now, so I figure it's either going for an HDS45 Hot Dawg or for the used lift.

That would be the one thing I would love to have if I had the room. ( lift ). I have the Hot Dawg 75,000 btu and use it quite a bit on the colder days but having a lift would be fantastic. I hate lying on my back. Things sometimes are just out of reach or there isn't enough room for the tool of choice. NJ has mild enough climate that a macho guy like you doesn't need a heated space! I say lift. The heat can wait. JMTC

You can always sell that one when you find the full size one :-)

Or better yet, you could do a "giveaway" on MUD....

7k seems almost too small. does it have safety locks? maybe ok for cars, but a 9k would be better for cruisers. 7k is too close to the weight of some of the larger cruisers.

I think you'd use a lift year 'round vs. 4-5 months of the year for the heater. But then I also think you ought to hold out for a full-sized lift of one form or another. Ask Koffer or Tom to find one for you. Those dudes seem to fall into stuff like that. Can't speak to how useful a mid-rise lift is. You've seen/used the lift I have the most time with. Turns out my brother's 4 post lift is actually pretty nice to use too but takes up more room than a 2 post.

Thanks. Both were kind of what I was thinking. Will hold out and wait. Figure if I eat enough crap I should be able to self-heat the garage anyway

zebrabeefj40 - looks like I'm tossing up a shed near the holidays, so I'll finally be able to get the other crap out of the garage. :D

I'm in the final permit stage of a pole barn shop and was looking at getting a lift. Kinda the same thing , found a used lift for $600 or a new 10,000lb lift for $1995... The used one was pull from a shop and replaced and I'm afraid I figure out why after I get it installed so I think I'll go new.

This is the one I'm thinking about.

I bought a 9K Direct-lift new for about $1600.00 from these folks http://www.derekweaver.com/flash/index.html kickass website.....

It's funny they sell the same lifts that I was looking at, Direct Lifts for less that the manufacture's site. By the way turn down your volume before clicking on derekweavers site. :).

Grant how do you like your lift? Hate buying something without looking at it.

It's great..... they're close by and I was able to pick it up... so no freight factor......... the Weavers have been around for decades and good to work with... I have had a couple of others from them over the last 20 yrs or so....
