Adding remote start 2013 is there an OEM option? (1 Viewer)

Not totally true.

My 2020 Ram has OEM remote start. Truck does not shut off when door opened.

Wifes CRV doesnt shut off when door opened either (Honda OEM remote start)

I'm shocked to hear that! I was under the impression that having the vehicle shut down when the door is opened was a safety feature mandated by law.

Nope

My ram is a 2020 and wife’s CRV is 2022

Are they puah button start? My understanding is that vehicles with push button start turn off when the door is opened.

FYI... just installed a 12V solutions plug and play remote start in my '15 LX. Works great and I can use my OEM remote to start it. It does shut off when I open the door, though.

Great info guys thanks! I am cool with the open door/engine kill. No biggie.

Has anyone here installed the OEM ECU and harness for adding OEM remote start? It looks like $150 or so and I am adding it into the factory system instead of splicing and dicing up my OEM harness.

Toyota Part number:

PT398-42080

I'll call my local parts guy Monday and see what is in the "kit"

A quick part cross check says 2009-11 Camary's use the same unit. LIke $40 on eBay... but no wires. Now I gotta dig in and see where the factory remote start ECU lives and plugs in?

I’ll be darned

Went outside, popped hood, had the sticker

Closed hood, hit lock 3 times, held on 3rd press, fired right up. 🤯

But yeah, shuts off when door is open, which is pretty dumb, but funny, I had no idea I had it and 99% sure previous owner didn’t either

fOrD remote start also does not shut off when you open the door.

I think this is something stupid Toyota hasn’t figured out. Or quite simply just dgaf to fix.

Another 12V solutions vote here. Plug and play. No splicing or vampire tap trash.

Remote start shutting down engine the minute the key is used to authenticate the vehicle, is simple yet effective solution. I dont think they program the remote start in house so the system has not evolved or has been hardened for security purposes. When its brought in house things will change,

I don’t know if it’s been said, but shouldn’t you have a VIP sticker in the corner of your drivers door window if you have remote start

I don't have remote start. Thanks for the info.

Anyone gone down this road before or do I get to be the guinea pig?

Is there a copy of the 2013 200 series factory manual on line?

This likely won’t be in the FSM. They usually include detailed instructions with the module and those are often available online. My glass-break sensor was like this.

I installed the OEM(PT398-6014) remote start kit on the wife’s 2015 on Saturday. Very easy install process of the parts, all plug and play, though it does require programming. The instructions use techstream, but I was able to program with an Autel tool.

The contents of the kit, Autel, and random counter top stuff…

Instructions are not included with the kit. There was a sticker on the box that says visit the dealer for a copy of installation instructions. I was able to track down a PDF here on MUD.

Here ya go… programming steps are after installation steps.

Does this one also shut off once the door is opened?

Yes… it shuts off when unlocked/opened and has to be restarted. The instructions also state it shuts off after 10 minutes, and has a total of 20 minute run time before requiring a “manual” start.

I agree it’s not the most user friendly, but I wanted OEM integration. And the wife is happy she has remote start!

Oh, yeah, I agree 100% with OEM for something like this

Just curious if one of the wiring gurus figured out a bypass for not shutting off when open door

While anything is possible… I don’t think this is a simple cut/splice wiring work around scenario. There are 2 modules added, 4 connectors used, and the programming is done through the “smart access” ECU which is the key/immobilizer module.

All that to say, if you can’t live with the pitfalls of OEM operation(I can), then go aftermarket…

I ordered the 12 Volt Solutions kit. The OEM for the 2013 model is discontinued

Did you get the extended range remotes with your kit? If so, do the lock/unlock buttons on the 12 volt remote work when the car is running? Not remote start running, regular running. I ask as the factory ones don't and was curious if the 12 volt ones did.

I did not. Went with the basic kit.
