I am trying to run 1/4" tubing with instant fittings to my front ARB and have pulled all the parts together except the adapter from the ARB 3/8 24 UNF hex nipple at the bulkhead fitting to the 1/4 NPT that I have plenty of. Anybody know where I can find a way to adapt 3/8 24 to 1/4 NPT? McMaster appears to be no help on this one. Thanks in advance.

I have no idea where you are talking (I assume the ARB compressor). Does the compressor not have an 1/8" or 1/4" NPT? If its a straight thread like you are talking and you want to convert to a pipe thread you need to get a compression fitting adapter... anyone that specializes in fittings (brass fittings) should be able to set you up.

Cheers

Have you tried Home Depot, thats where I got all of my adapters.

Well I am going to go out on a bit of a limb on this one and try to answer your questions...I was consulting the machinist handbook this morning and IF the hole in your ARB is 3/8-24 and you want a bushing that is 3/8-24 external threads and 1/4"NPT thread internal...you wont be able to find that...the major and minor diameters are such that your internal threads are bigger than your external ones...if you are wanting to use the fitting I think you are we use tons of those and you may still be able to run 1/4" tubing and have your fitting be 1/4" x 3/8-24 so not to have to bush it to a different thread...a little teflon tape and tighten it up real good and you may not need pipe threads...hope this helps:idea:

Thanks for the responses. To clarify: the fitting I am trying to adapt to is 3/8-24 hex nipple and it is screwed into the bulkhead fitting on the differential. I was hoping to find a female 3/8 24 x 1/4 NPT male or female to adapt. Hope this clears up the picture.

i tried to use the 1/4 NPT fittings screwed directly onto the 3/8 24 hex nipple and it didn't tighten up enough for me. It did not have teflon tape or sealant on which I am sure will make a difference.

There's a specific adapter I used to do this but damn if I can tell you the exact info. Give four wheel parts wholesalers in Reno, NV a call to obtain more info on this. The adapter I bought from them allowed me to run 1/4" DOT hose straight to the front and rear ARB lockers. For this particular project, I used pneumatic swtiches to activate the lockers and did NOT use the ARB supplied solenoids.

On the other hand, you could do this: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/alia176/detail?.dir=927e&.dnm=4e97scd.jpg&.src=ph

This coupler adapts the BSP thread of the ARB solenoid to a 1/8" NPT. I'm assuming of course that you're still using the supplied solenoids. The coupler is more common and can be found in most places that carry specialty metric hardware. Home Depot, Lowe's and Ace hardware don't count ;)

Cheers,

Ali
