These still did not totally satisfy me for a winter tire. In my opinion a tall skinny mud tire that is sipped and/or studded still is the best winter tire. These coopers still would float more than I liked in deeper compressed snow like on the roads when you get a snow dump and then a bunch of cars have driven over it.

Pretty hard to beat a dedicated winter tire for winter driving conditions. These tires, however, will only see African soil and sand/rocky conditions.

Injectors redone and injector pump rebuilt/ calibrated with boost compensator installed.

Transmission rad and fan added to sit facing downward in the bumper, allowing me to retain the factory bumper and fit a low profile winch overtop but not to impede airflow significantly.

I would be afraid to play in the sand with that trans cooler facing down exposed like that. Won't that fill up with sand of the fan get filled??

I suppose there is a possibility, however I think it is pretty remote since there is little to stir up sand being in front of the truck. And i can't imagine being anywhere deep enough to have it buried that deep. You would have to be stuck pretty bad to dig down that much which seems almost impossible.

It might beore plausible for grass seeds plugging it, but I will be doing two 'shields'. The first is big netting around the unit and the second a rigid metal screen to keep trees and twigs etc from impacting it.

Injector pump back in place and brush guard for tranny cooler also put in.

Timing belt back on as well.

does your injector pump comes with throttle position sensor from factory? :hmm:

No it does not come with the TPS- I had to reuse the original.

Bad news on the suspension seats fitting a hj75 guys. The floor pan is different on the bolt up because the fuel tank is mounted under the cabin

I took some strain deciding between a bullbar and keeping the factory Chrome front bumper and decided to leave everything factory. I dig the look of the bumper, but had need of putting a winch in place. Looking at the size and fit of the cut out of the front bumper plate where a factory winch is supposed to fit, I had a winch plate made to fit into the factory bumper hole. I kept the j hook on one side and on the other placed an eye bolt that was dabbed for my 100 that I just scrapped. There is a small cut out in the front of te plate for a wireless controller for the winch selenoid, but I wired in cab controls anyways from the 12volt guy.

It is -42 with windchill today so that's the extent of the pics for now. I will add more later.

It's been a while since my last post so I can summarize a year fairly quickly. I have put 55k km last year since arriving in botswana and have had nothing but problems. The minute I drove it off the container it over heated once I got to 90km/hr even if I babied it. After 4 months of messing around with incompetent shops in bots and replacing the head, I sent it to Baillies Offroad in johanesburg for a proper look into. Turns out shop that sold and installed a 'new' head actually put in a used one that was also cracked. They also convinced me of an intercooler and cut a hole in my hood and installed an oilcooler instead f a proper air to air intercooler. Of course they neglected to return my money bit this is africa and lttle accountability. A few grand later and a new rad from oz, external oil cooler, and we have solved the overheating problem but we still watch the egt and water temps insanely carefully. We also had other failures and worn parts to replace: starter crapped out, wheel bearings, king pin bearings, inner axle oil seal and axle seal kit, 24v to 12v converter, front auto hubs failed, faulty tranny sensor and one of the ultra pricey north star deep cycles.
In the last little while I have added profender suspension which is far superior to the ome in terms of durability but a bit agressive valving. Added a bullbar from LA Sport with a little modding as it was for the 70 series v8. Installed a frontrunner drawer system with sliding top and removeable ammo boxes, got rid of the Chinese knock off led light bar and put a planetron led light bar (smaller and better usable light output), swapped out factory headlights for Planetron headlights; each is 1900 lumens lowbeam and 3900 lumens high beam. I also added 3 inch exhaust to the car and it helped on temps a bit. I drive this as my daily driver and do 90% corrugations to and from work. Tyically 80 to 90 km hr on bad dirt. The st maxx survived well and gave me over 55k km. The size of 255 are too big for this car even when turbo ed. Our ambient temps are 40 degree to 47 degrees and roads are flat and speed limits to 120. I can barley do 110 kmh in 40 something heat and keep my egt's no higher than 1100 degrees f at that constant speed. I tend to use a/c religiously with the heat as you cook in the truck so it doesn't help the system cope with high thermal load. All in all I hate to say it but I could have nearly bought a vdj70 series v8 double cab new for nearly the same amount I have spent on this. I am eating my earlier comments but am swallowing and not looking back. As for tires I am looking at going back down to 235's. I think this will help and we don't have hectic wheeling here like north America. Just easy sand over landing. I am adding an off the shelf rear dual swing out from LA Sport as well this weekend. More pics to come

Rear bumper on finally. The swing outs to come. Everything fit directly across from the 76 so we didn't have to adjust anything.
