Head pressure can be bad at these hot temps, making cycling of the compressor even slower. If head pressures are high, the compressor will have to work harder lugging the engine down even more. A trick to help with high, high side pressures at an idle, is to wire a pusher fan in front of the condensor that will come on when the compressor comes on. The extra air over the condenser will help keep high side pressures in check which in turn will bring low side pressure down making cooler air. I wired mine tthrough a relay using the AC switch on the dash. This causes the fan to run continuous when the button is pushed. My AC blows ice cold even on 100 degree days, idling or not.
