Have issues with my AC on my 96 Cruiser. It only works on high or it doesn’t work at all. Just will kick on and off sporadically. I already replaced the resistor blower and that didn’t do the trick. I am a new owner- any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

There is no connector plugged into the resistor. There is also no connector plugged into the relay. Do those two connect? Is it as simple as I’m missing wiring between the two parts? Again, total noob- sorry if these are dumb questions!

Not sure I understand your question. Are you saying your Blower Motor (fan) only works on high speed (no other speeds) or that your compressor only engages when the system is set on high?

IF your relay or resistor are not 'plugged' in/connected to their respective wiring circuits then YES....of course they need to be connected in order to work. NO two harness connectors join one another in your A/C system, they all go to components of some sort OR are 'extras' (not used in the U.S. Market models).

It only works on high when it does work. However, it turns on and turns off at random. Sometimes it will work for a few weeks, other times only for a few minutes.

That makes sense. I know it needs to be connected, but there is no unconnected wires. So I have no idea where the connection into the resistor comes from.

OK, maybe its my reading comprehension skills (or lack thereof) but did you not say in post #2:

"There is no connector plugged into the resistor. There is also no connector plugged into the relay."

Yep- you are correct. Both the resistor and the relay have open connections. The pictures show this, but they are a little hard to see. I know the resistor needs something plugged into it, but there is nothing to plug into it.

I think I'm following you now:

BOTH your resistor and relay have no wire harness connectors attached to them AND you can not find a 'plug/connector' for either one?

Unless someone has snipped them off...they are back there somewhere. It's a very crowded bunch of wiring I know....but use a flashlight and carefully follow each wire bundle. IF someone has had the evaporator out before they often just shove all the wiring back into that area. A couple of connectors could easily be hidden.

I removed the globe box and looked pretty good last night, but I’ll keep looking. Didn’t think about them getting smashed behind some the the evaporator if it was removed. I’ll give it a good look. Thanks for the help!

Ok- may have figured it out. There was a connector that fits the resistor that had this ground wire connected, which is why I didn’t notice it at first. Any thoughts on this ground wire in the pic? Is this normal?

That wire is not OEM. The factory would never use a red wire for a ground nor would it be located where this wire is. It is something a PO installed and removed before selling. That AC plug may have been disconnected to allow easier removal but just overlooked.

Plugged it in and got it all working! Just not sure about the purpose of this ground wire and what to do with it now...

Good job! As @ppc pointed out....the ground wire is something that was added on.

Glad you got it sorted out.
