took truck into shop and asked them to pull codes. There were no lights on dash but I like to know if anything’s pending. Printout showed codes for front driver side and rear passenger side wheel speed sensors. No ABS light on dash. Since the sensors are $150+ each...is there a walkthrough for testing? I’ve heard could be dirty, but I really don’t know what I’m looking for. Any help troubleshooting is appreciated.

Each hub has a sensor on it. They collect dirt or grim. You can unplug the sensor (don't break the connector ) and clean an reinstall sensor. One banana job

Just realized this in 100 series. I assume its similar to 80 series on this but not positive

$17 on Ebay for a sensor, I just installed one this weekend on the front left corner of my LX.
As mentioned by @REKCUT the sensor collects dirt and mud over time throwing codes without being faulty. That is exactly what happened with mine.
I thought it was the sensor, I destroyed the sensor trying to get it out but didn't worried thinking it was bad. Turned out mud got through the old seal and plugged everything so the sensor wasn't able to read properly.

Thanks @diego355 Do I have to remove the hub to get to the part that needs cleaning, or is accessible once the wheel is removed? Also, can I just buy the sensor? I’m reading other threads and some say replace the whole wiring harness and sensor.

Meaning...can the sensor be pulled out from the back and replaced?

I just got my front brakes done so I’m assuming that any dirt/debris came out or was cleaned when that was done.

You can tap the sensor out- but they can be stubborn and apt to crack/break. Try using a wooden dowel, spray some penetrant to seep around the sensor, gently tap it out.

The ABS sensor can be pulled from behind the knuckle without removing the wheel but most of them are seized and break while trying to pull them out.
The sensor comes with the wiring, its super easy to replace. 5 bolts to remove and a plug.
Unfortunately you will have to remove the hub and the disc to clean the ABs sensor reading surface as you can see on the pics I posted.

Follow this video for instructions. (This guy changed the rotor so too so skip that part)

Watched this video the other day, it looks like he doesn't show regreasing the bearing. Is that necessary o r can I just put it back together like he does?

got it. Is the consensus that the cheap speed sensors work just fine, vs the $150 versions?

Haven't had to buy one yet. If it's not a lot of trouble for you to swap them out if they fail then go cheap and see how it works. If you're paying for the install- best to do it once with the oem part and not experiment.

It's worth doing it while you are there, it will take you a extra 20 minutes.

Buy the cheap sensor, once you do this job once you will realize that the next time is going to take you 1/4 of the time and if the cheap sensor fails it will not be seized next time.
with the amount of anti-seize I put around it, that sensor will be fine for another 20 years

Note: Be sure you have the 54mm socket and C-clip pliers.

Just for clarification. Can your abs not work without having an "ABS" light on? My ABS light illuminates at start, then goes off with all the other lights just like it should. However, my ABS is NOT working. I have had 3 incidents where my ABS did not work and the event today almost got me into an accident.

Thanks in advance for any help with this!

I wonder the same. I had an error show 2 abs sensors were not working however the abs light has never gone off. The bulb does work because is it on at start.
