I've been cursed with the brake/vsc trac/vsc off/abs light on my 01 470. I tried the jumper under the hood and the codes make me think I have dirty sensors. Makes sense bc I had a locked caliper when I bought the truck in march and it was grinding everything like crazy.

Now my truck, like most doesn't want to let go of the rear sensors so I can clean them, so 2 questions. Can I clean the sensor while it's still in the hub? And if not, what have you guys done to get them out?

Thanks!

In my experience, these wheel speed sensors (aka ABS sensors) are always seized to the hub, and no amount of gentle persuasion can remove them without them disintegrating. The plastic just becomes too brittle in the high heat environment of the hub. I have a low mileage, garage kept 2007 from the pacific northwest, and this was still the case.

It can't hurt to *try* removing it from behind. Here's a good thread on the topic. There's a 10mm bolt holding it onto the back of the spindle. If it doesn't come out in one piece, you'll need to remove the hub. Here's a video of that. The bad news is that these sensors cost around $150 each
