I searched and double checked everything...

Repacked bearings, new rotors, new brake pads, new calipers. All went smooth thanks to mud.

I double checked all wires (abs sensor) before buttoning up.

Bled the brakes thoroughly to swap out the brake fluid. It didn't look too bad. While bleeding (my dad in the truck) he heard a beep on the dash area and the abs light blinked according to him.

Prior to the job, the abs light would turn on in the dash when shifting to low. Never had the opportunity to actually try the abs on the road.

After the brake job, tested the brakes on the snowy road and they work great, abs activates and slows me to a stop, but no dash light.

Shifting into low, no ABS dash light.

Checked the wheel sensors again and all are in place and nothing knocked.

Checked for an abs fuse and nothing but the relays under the hood.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Flushing the brake fluid can be challenging in my '04 because of the accumulator in the ABS. I don't know about the '98, but it may take more than just the usual pump and bleed. I'd start with a proper full flush (for the '98) and see if that changes the lights. You might also try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes (But I'm writing from ignorance about the '98).

Forgot to mention the flush procedures are in links in the FAQs.

I may be wrong, but I don't remember either my 2006 LX nor my son's 2000 TLC lighting an ABS light when shifting the transfer case to 4-lo.

If I remember correctly, when I enable the center diff lock, my VSC off and Center diff lock lights go on. (I believe ATRAC and VSC didn't show up until the 2000 model year.) Are you sure it was "low" that was turning on the ABS light and not the "center diff lock" switch?

Hmmmm interesting. I will have to check in the morning.

Let me ask this. For those with a 98-00 when your abs kicks in, does the dashboard light typically illuminate?

Ok so maybe I was confused. When I shift into low the abs light stays off.

When I lock the rear, the abs light illuminates.

When our abs activates (mine is a 98) do any dash lights come on? Specifically the abs light. I assumed it would but have never seen it.

On another note, 28" of snow and nothing stops her. So much fun to drive in the snow.

Not that I recall, but if I'm on the brakes hard enough to activate ABS, I'm really not looking at the dash nor do I care what lights are illuminated. Normally I notice ABS activation more by feel/sound. My assumption is that the ABS light on the dash indicated a fault with the ABS system (or the rear diff lock is activated).

Ok so it seems that all is working well.

Abs works well though with proper braking and feathering I rarely use it.

For the kids though I didn't want to take any chances.
