I've been lurking on and off here for a long time in hopes of finally joining the community. Well, I'm excited to say that I'm picking up my first LC next week! It's a 2003, 88k miles, and one owner. I'll post pics next week when I pick her up. First question is, what tires to go with? 90% on road, 10% beach and mountains.

Anyone here have experience with either the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza or the Continental Cross Contact LX20? Both are about $750 installed.

Welcome to the 100 Club. As for tires, I've always been a fan of the BFG A/T's especially in Boston winters. No experience with either Bridgestone Duelers or Continental Cross Contacts though. Where in Boston are you?

Thanks for the welcome lhommec13! Don't want the noise of an A/T tire. Reviews on tire rack are strong for both the Bridgestone and Conti's so guess I can't go too wrong. I'm in Chelmsford, MA now.

Not sure what size you're running but I really liked the BFG rugged trails I had on my Tundra. They had a decently aggressive look, no road noise and fulfilled my bias for BFG tires :)

Everyone has their own spin on it, but I really like the Michelin A/T-2. Very nice on the highway, and plenty of tread for the bit of off-roading I do while hunting and winter driving. Not hardcore, but a nice balance.

Both tires you suggested suck, IMHO Go with BFG A/T or duratrac. A/T tires aren't always loud. The BFGs are not loud at all. If you get them, get the ones that are "d" rated and have the snow flake. You will find that almost no one on here has the tires you brought up, and also that Toyota/Lexus doesn't use those. Trust this site! People here have driven 100s of millions of miles in Land Cruisers and LXs and not all are off-roaders.

I got those tires and returned them after the first snowfall. The guy at the store touted them as being good in the snow, and they were not as good as I expected. They subbed them out for BFG a/t for no charge.

BFG's are a great tire (arguably one of the best all terrains on the market) but judging from how much you said you would take your LC offroad I think they'd be a little overkill. Personally, I have Yokohama Geolander All Terrains. I had never heard of anyone using them before but I absolutely love them. Never gotten stuck and I've been in some pretty sticky situations. They can run as low as $112 a tire and you can't really beat that!

As you can see, tire opinions are like oil opinions. Tirerack.com is a good place to research tires. I would echo what a couple others have said about not going with an A/T tire for your use. I haven't heard anything particularly bad about the tires you listed, but I don't think either are available in the stock size and they seem to be geared more toward crossovers than a large, heavy SUV like a LC100. I would personally go with the Michelin LTX M/S2 or a less aggressive a/t tire like the LTX A/T2. Michelins aren't very cheap however. But you'll see lots of options for cheaper, highly rated tires here and on tirerack. Congrats on the purchase.

This will likely be my next tire if the 285 / 16 size will work for me. I like the Michelin LTX I have now, they are great on road, wear even, and are quiet. I've never really been disappointed with Michelin tires.

A family member just had some GeoLanders put on a 4runner, they look like they would be a great AT tire. If they are quiet and wear long, I think it's a good buy.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. At this phase of life, my LC will be mostly used ferrying the kids and their friends to lacrosse, softball, football, etc. It will be used to pick up building supplies at HD. It will be used to get to the mountains in the winter and want it to be able to get through a foot of snow without concern. It will be used for 1-2 camping trips per year in which the LC will only see fire roads. It will be used 1-2 x per year at the beach on the Cape and Islands. I do all of this now (except the beach) with an Odyssey on Blizzaks in winter. I figured with full time FWD and 5500 lbs, I wouldn't need such an aggressive tire for my needs? So, what say you - A/T tire or All season tire?

I had the LTX's on my 80 series (I think they were a dealer install back originally) then later moved to the A/T's, which were even better when we ventured offroad or when faced with winter weather. I like the A/T 2 better still. Running them on both our 100's.

A few friends have the Geolanders, but I don't find them to be as good on the highway. Noticeably more road noise. IMHO

Another vote for the LTX's. Excellent on road and better than I would have guessed off. Since spending more time in East Tennessee, which is lousy with places to go, I have gone out approximately a dozen times and have had a blast. While I am sure a more aggressive tire would make trails more fun, the juice is not worth the squeeze to me.

Here are some pics from when I first got them mounted. I now have about 7K miles on them. The total was $576 and that included all 4 tires plus mounting and balancing! Also, they have the least amount of road noise compared to other A/T's my buddies and I have run on our 100s/LX470s.
