So my 60 is pretty much rust free and although she could use a fresh coat of paint, i simply dont have the money for that now.

What I do have, is a small rust area around the bottom right corner of the front windshield and a few surface spots here and there that could use attention before they get any worse.

So what do you recommend I use to stop the rust in its tracks, until I can get it painted? Painting may take another year or so, so I dont want it to look awful in the meantime!

Thought about a POR-15 starter kit as I dont need that much, but have never used it before only heard things about it.

What do you all think?

post pics of rust problem first. that would help to identify a repair process. POR would work but it may just take a little sanding and priming.

If it hasn't rusted through than the por15 kit should be fine. The problem with rust at the edge of the windshield is you end up pulling the glass to do a proper repair.
Is the 60's windshield a glue in or gasket? If it's a gasket be sure to get any rust under the seal.

I recommend Rust Bullet as less prep than POR15 therefore less expensive. You will need to top coat the Rust Bullet once dry per instructions on the can, like 48 hours.

I've never used POR15 and lots of folks swear by it, but I was turned off by all the prep necessary per instructions.

Hey Fellas thanks for the replies.

Ive attached a few pics for you to see. As you can see its not all that bad but like I said before I would just like to stop it in its tracks before it gets worse.

I'll look into rust bullet KY. I had just been looking at that POR15 starter kit, because as you can see i dont need that much.

Try Summit Racing, their shipping is always $9.99 no matter how much or what you buy.

Search Results for rust bullet - SummitRacing.com

One Quart is $40 and will be more than enough. You will need to paint over with any paint Krylon, Rustoleum, Duplicolor.

Rust Bullet sells a Black Shell topcoat but I think that it not necessary for what your doing.

Good Luck.

From experience I can tell you there is always more rust than you think. I can also tell you windsheild removal to investagate further is needed before moving forward.

if your going to do paint and body in a year then i would say remove loose paint apply rust converter and top coat with color. autozone has rust converter in small amounts
