Checking the a.c.s today and found I am low on freon. Anybody got a couple of cans I can buy from them? Texas is starting to get warm .thanks, Mike

You can take an online class and get a license and then order all the R12 you want legally.

Man I should do that. I've got about half a dozen old cans of DuPont R12 in my dad's garage and have been wanting to check (and service if necessary) my A/C and make sure it's all good to go for this summer.

You just need a letter stating you are buying it to resell it to be legal is all. I downloaded one and have to find it. That's all I used. My buddy does commercial hvac and filled the wife's 80.

Cost averages depending on time of year. I paid an average of $20 bucks a can last year.

This is all you need on Ebay. Copy and print it or PM me with your email and i'll send it.

Could not open. Whats the course site? Mike

What does it take to convert to the new stuff? Michael, if you get more than you need, let me know and I will put some in inventory over here in case the need arises.

Different compressor oil and different O-rings all around, along with new fittings on the compressor.

R134a isn't as efficient as R12 though, so I'd rather keep the R12 and just spend the extra money on the few occasions where I need to service it (only been twice in the truck's life for me, though I think I'm coming up due again).

No. I believe they still come as a R-12 unit. I just bought one last month from Coolstreamac.com and converted it to R-134a. Its not a big deal and it works great.

I'm with Spook. I just took all my hoses, compressor, dryer and condensor off today. I plan on buying new hoses, dryer and rebuilt compressor when it goes back together. More than likely keep the R-12.

Some of our cruisers are r-12,some 134,I really see very little difference in cooling ability in Dallas, Mike

True. But most people on here want to buy it and fill it themselves. I agree that the chances are rare you will get in trouble for servicing your R12 AC yourself but just wanted to let people know it is pretty easy from what I have heard. You take the class online and get the certificate and then you can buy it from anywhere and order a case instead of buying it on CL or ebay.

Only $20 bucks for a certificate? That's a pretty good deal then. Didn't think that was all that was needed.
Does it show you how to you gauges do you know?

Nopers. No "how-to" stuff in there. Just info on proper (environmentally safe) servicing and terms that the EPA would be concerned about for a technician.
