I am having serious issues with the AC on my 08 land cruiser - now it seems to have creeped into the climate control system as well. Got the truck about a month ago now from VA. Lots of corrosion that I did not know about. Not sure if this is affecting things.
1st couple weeks everything worked well. All of the AC functions cool box heater etc... no issues. Then a little over a week ago A/C started blowing warm, and the cool box was warm air only.
Took to dealer and they said they found no issues, did say the lines running to the rear AC were corroded, and in need of replacement, but could not find any leaks.
They evac, and recharged system and AC still did not work.
Picked it up last night and the cool box was blowing coolish air. This morning when I got in the truck, hit the Auto button to warm up the cabin and nothing happened. Could not get the heater to blow. Then after a couple miles, the heater started to blow warm air.
Noticed the A/C light would not go out, checked the cool box and it was powered on again.
Powered it off. and tried the AC, no cool air. But the cool box was now blowing very cold air.
Then just left it alone, turned off the cool box and drove for a bit. Hit the cool box again but this time it blew no air at all.
Turned it off waited a bit, then about 4 minutes later turned it on, and it blew cool air.
Still AC blows warm air. Heater seems fine. Auto seems to work now again.
I am wondering if the display screen somehow could be malfunctioning? or could this be a servoe, or a sensor of some kind? I was told the lines that run to the back could be around $1500, so before I just do that, I want to make sure the system is operating correctly.
PLEASE OFFER UP SOME ADVICE> The dealer had it from 9:30AM to 5:30 PM yesterday, and now say they need it again for additional diagnostics.

I'm surprised your dealer didn't fix it and left it non-functional. It's not like they can't tell if it's working or not. Also the amount of diagnostic info available via Techstream is pretty good. I'm certain if something isn't working correctly DTC codes are being raised. I think you need to find another dealer that is competent and will bother to to actually troubleshoot the problem.

So dealer said after they charged it again, it was not holding pressure. Not sure why yet, but now that there is new dye - they may be able to track it this time. Also an electrical issue they need to track down. They said they will give me a rental car for a couple days while they go through and track it down. Have to drop it off Tuesday at 9AM. I am wondering if the corrosion from the east coast possibly has created some faulty wires? or something? I'd love to hear from someone who has/had similar issues. but not much feedback so far...

I double checked the AC Filter in the glovebox and noticed a few things. #1 it was upside down. #2 there is no tray, it just sits a bit loose, #3, not sure how to pull the accordion type door back down?

In regard to #3, the door should automatically close when the system is set to fresh air intake. It should automatically open when set to recirculate. I believe others have had issues with auto a/c control when there is an issue with this door, but I don't think that would cause issues with it not being cold when it does blow.

Also I would agree with finding another dealer. Any competent service professional should have checked the a/c cabin filter first, and it sounds like this is something you discovered on your own.

OK, thanks for reply. So I did catch on to the door opening and closing now based on position of ricirc vs. fresh air. and it is operating properly. Is there no tray for the filter to sit into before putting it back in the glovebox? I also noticed the rear ac barely blows at all from the vents behind the cool box. no matter what mode it is in, or what temp setting, fan on full high, it barely blows at all there. and of course blows warm.

It's not going to filter as well without the tray since air will be more likely to leak around the sides. I'm not sure if it's possible without looking at the housing again but I wonder if it would be possible for the filter to come in contact with the air director preventing it from properly moving between recirculate and outside air.

I believe this behavior is normal. The truck will avoid blowing cold air on you while the coolant heats up.

Does sound like the problem is related to the A/C circuit or A/C part of the system.

I have never like the 2nd row A/C. It blows full blast in 3rd row but the 2nd row is pretty weak. This was also an issue with my previous 08.

Ok everyone, thanks again for the info. Yea apparently that 2nd row AC blows weak on all 200's since there is not a 2nd blower. (as i've been told) I did order the a/c filter tray from the dealer for about $13.00, should be there tomorrow. I also found that the cool box seemed to be blowing cooler air, while the AC would only blow warmish air. Dropped off the rig at Autonation, Jason there took a bunch of detailed notes this time, and they even put me in a courtesy rental car while they diagnose this issue. Lets hope it's figured out today!! I will keep you all updated.

Ok so some progress! Apparently there is definitely a faulty pressure switch. So they are replacing that, then checking how it operates to make sure that was the only issue. Not too bad at a total of $600-650.

That's steep for a pressure switch. I guess that includes diagnosis. Hopefully it's all good now.

Then again I spent 3x that to rework the A/C in my old BMW only to have it produce a slightly cool breeze.
Yeah, the cost included all of the diagnosis. They had the truck in twice and spent about 5-6 hours trying to track it down. also recharging system. I had a 1979 911 sc that I spent probably close to a grand to get the AC operable. In the end after replacing lines, converting to new Freon, and replacing condenser and such, it quit working like a month later!

Good news is that my AC is back up and working correctly. thank goodness! however, there still is a concern that the lower lines are so corroded there may still be a pinhole size leak. But they were not able to find any dye, so it may be fine. We'll see if the Freon stays in. If not then new rear lines are in my future.

Ah, that's not a bad price then.

Haha, yeah having old German cars as a hobby was/is not a good decision for financial or mental health.
