I recently revamped my A/C system with new condenser and drier. Cleaned the evaporator and used the same compressor (had no issue before or leaking). I added oil on the new parts per one of the write ups here.

No grinding i noticed initially on my first two tests but after I had it sitting outside for a couple of days I would hear a grinding noise when you first turn on the a/c after the car has sat for a while. Grinding noise only lasts less than a second then goes away then unable to replicate it again until the car has sat fir a while again.

Could system be low on oil?

Sounds like it could be the compressor shaft bearing, behind the electric clutch.

Mine recently did similar. Would squeak/ grind on first start up for a few seconds. It very quickly became a siezed bearing.

The bearing is easily replaced without removing compressor, or degassing.
A bit of searching through threads, you should find the bearing number.
I've used Nachi bearings with good results previously. I previously changed the bearing in this vehicle, I couldn't find a nachi bearing and used a generic one. It's been in a few years, but hasn't seen a lot of mileage.
