If CR 2 is blocked by an avalanche forcing you to take the long way around to get to Animas Forks and run the Alpine Loop, does anyone have any idea what the total time required to do the Alpine Loop would be? I recall a couple years ago running the Alpine Loop with @nakman. We took the scenic route, up 110 and through Hurricane and California and then over Engineer. But on the way back we came through Animas Forks and then went south on CR2. If you have to go back the same way you came, through Hurricane and California, what would the total round trip time be? I don't want to miss out on the potluck. I like wheeling but I like eating too.

Also, I can't seem to find where CR2 is blocked? How far north from Silverton is the avalanche debris? Can you get to Howardsville, or Eureka?

It's blocked just above the Placer/Picayne cutoff (just within sight of Animas Forks). The total time for Engineer/Cali/Hurricane to Silverton would be 2-3.5 hours depending on pace. I'm towing a small trailer and am estimating 3.5 hours to be safe unless for any reason Cinnamon opens which would be just a little shorter.

Here's are 2 pics from Tuesday of the slide blocking CR2 from just below Animas Forks....3rd pic is a screenshot from drone footage on the same day looking towards Animas Forks with Placer/Picayne on the left and Burns Gulch on the right.

My co-drive just pulled out due to a family issue, so I'm high and dry. I just contacted the organizers about a refund, which I know is against the TOS as it says 30 days, but I understand there are many people that still want to go. I'm super bummed to be missing this, but hopefully it allows someone else to be able to go.

Emailed you back. We are not adding any more from waitlist. It’s far too late. Sorry, but we have a lot into this and adding now is not practical for many reasons.
Thx

We should do some competitions to see who's rig can get furthest up there. ;)

@marcfj60 I posted a few pages back, but it's a solid 2 hours from Animas Forks to Silverton, over California and Hurricaine.. when we do the Alpine Loop we usually leave town at 8:30, make it to the top of Hurricaine by 9:45, then Animas by about 10:30. Top of Engineer by 11:30, Lake City 12:30, lunch then top of Cinnamon by 2:30, back home 3:30. Every major stop roughly an hour apart..

@geanes I guess that means no creek crossing photos this year? bummer... man that is the last place I would have thought to see the last drift standing... this one two years ago:

That’s correct. Cannot get the group into the site until Wednesday afternoon. @smakee is prepped and ready to park some trucks!!

Speaking of....to my parking/camp layout crew - we’re gonna get started after the beer truck shows up Wednesday morning. 🍺 at your discretion 😂. Probably start laying flags around 10:30 or 11 after I’ve had a chance to walk the site and mark off soft spots. I’m planning on laying out the north side this year since we have more trucks, so we’ll need a little more time to get organized.

I was trying to recall the transit times from 2 years ago. I'm leading it on Friday with a 7 AM muster time. So depart about 7:30, Animas Forks about 9:30, Lake City about 11:30, Lunch about 12, Cinnamon about 2. Then back to Animas Forks about 3, and back through California, over Hurricane and back to Silverton by about 5. Seem reasonable?

Kind of feeling dumb for asking but is there going to be a lot of bugs in camp?.... I don’t mean my kids ....
Might be some mosquitoes if you camp over next to the pond. But in general not that many bugs the years I've gone.

I usually start the Loop from Mineral Creek but timing to start of Engineer is about the same. Will definitely run it that way this year so we’re not doing Hurricane and Cali twice in one day.

Bugs....

They were pretty bad this week. Especially on Last Dollar. Bring bug spray. They've never been an issue before, but this is an odd year.

Silverton is a small town but does have a grocery store (small) and a hardware store for any small items forgotten or lost along the way. We'll be in Telluride, Ouray and Ridgway fairly often so you'll have opportunities to stop at larger stores as well. No fast food or big chain stores though.

And Durango isn’t that far away...it has all the big box stores that anyone may need.

Packing up my truck and go to move it and have a battery light... Need some help. Getting close to 17 volts directly from the alternator stud and neg of the battery but only 12.3 at the battery. No blown fuses. Any ideas? Supposed to leave tomorrow but now I don't know
