Good Afternoon,

I believe this question has come up before in regards to California spec emissions, however, after receiving the 0420 code the other day on our 99 Limited, originally from California, I've been looking into replacing both the front and rear converters just to start fresh on a 225k rig. Looking at what is available on the market, Cali spec parts from Magnaflow are going to run about $2k all in, ouch. Thing is, the truck isn't registered in California any longer and is in fact, in a town that doesn't require emissions at all. The non California Magnaflow is down around $1000, but there are systems available on eBay for $200. Obvious point aside about you get what you pay for, since I don't have to get the truck to pass emissions, is it really going to matter? Are there any performance or other considerations that will make the extra $800 a no brainer? I considered deleting the 2nd converter but believe that will wreak havoc on the computer and leave me with constant check engine lights so I'm not planning to go that route.

Thanks in advance!

I'm surprised no one chimed in on this yet, since you are no longer registered in Cali I guess you could do anything. Unless you just want to have new Cat. Converters to just take care of that code and spend all that hard earned cash. I have some temporary fix that i do and it last a few months, I too have the same issue on my wife's 4th gen. P0420 and P0430 I need both banks converter on a V8 which cost around $1500 from Toyota. Let me know if you want it I could just DM you the (Bandaid) repair.
