98 Tacoma TRD 5 speed new owner! (2 Viewers)

Hello guys,. I just picked up a 98 Tacoma this past weekend. I'm usually in the 80s forum and pick up forum. I sold my 85 xtra cab a couple of months ago and bought this truck as a replacement. Has 130k miles and has been out west it's whole life so no rust! Starting to do some baseline maintenance and some cosmetic repairs. Has the 3.4 and runs great. This is my first Tacoma and am pretty excited!

Nice truck! Looks clean and has low miles. I love the pre 2002 front ends on these. Super reliable and durable trucks, but check the UCA & LCA bushings along with the CV boots. They tend to be worn out being this old. The 3.4 is a SOLID motor though. It'll last you 300k as long as you replace the timing belt every 75-90k.

I plan on just keeping this one fairly stock. Both upper and lower ball joints look good. Still tight but I'll replace them in the next year or so. Axle boots are in good shape too. Gonna replace the front shocks. Ordered replacements from Toyota. Here's a couple of pics of my 80 and pick up.
