Been looking for a 100 series. I was hoping to find a nice 2003 for the 5 speed as I would be doing a bit of towing. A popup that is not much weight and easy to tow. And also short trips towing the 5500 lb boat from storage to lake and back out.

However this 98 came up close, about 15 mins from home. I don't have time to check it out right now though and won't for another week.

Seems like a fairly reasonable price. I don't know about rust or timing belt etc. Would have to check all that when I get back in town.

What would you guys look for specific to these 100's at this mileage other than service records, timing belt, rust and overall condition? History of accidents and title. Anything in general to these like the heater T hose fittings maybe?

Where should I look for rust?

I will check for lockers too, if it is still here when I get back. Link below.

Thanks.

You should Check for power steering motor, rack and front axle.these are one of the major problems likely to trouble you in future and also clutch flywheel and throwout bearing

If it runs and drives decent, it will be a good cruiser. At 200k miles you should plan to replace some wear parts like the steering rack, wheel bearings, ball joints, etc. I'd bet the timing belt wasn't replaced a second time based on the mileage. Plug the VIN into Toyota Owners and see if any of the past service shows up, you could be pleasantly surprised.

I've seen rust primarily show up in the rear wheel wells. The front lower portion of my rear wheel wells are rusting. I have seen rust on other 100s in various spots around the rear wheel well.

You don't have to worry about the clutch or release bearing as it is an automatic.

As a comparison, I picked up my one owner 99 with 246k miles in January for about the same price.

Looks like the rear spoiler has broken off. I had that problem once when backing into a parking spot with a low hanging branch. Replaced it myself as I though it looked funny without it. You'll have to get that through the dealer. Almost have 300K miles on my 98 and its still great!

Looks like CEL is on. The picture of the wheel shows 3 of the lug nuts does not look like the OEM type. Missing 3 wheel caps. Interior looks decent though. Let us know if you decided to see the car.

Thanks guys. I just got back in town.

There was only the one picture up when I last looked a week ago. Looks like they put a bunch more up. I may hold off for a nicer one. I have several projects already, need to sell my 93 and chasing an EGR code on my 94. Running like dog $#!t too.

I will think about it though. Could be some simple maintenance issues to fix the CEL on this 98, could also need a lot of work...
