I’m getting ready to dive into my old LX. I’ve had it since 1999 except for being in the possession of two of my college kids. She’s tired and needs some zip. She is my daily driver. My other car is a 1977 FJ40 which is very drivable and will be my ride while the LX gets updated. My question if cost is no object what would you do to the drivetrain? If cost is important and you want to spend 6-10k what would you do? Finally, sub 6k what would you do? Thank you!

I just replaced the factory engine last Dec, Original had 296.000 still ran fin was burning oil. I bought a toyota short block and re built my head. Runs great. But I can take to shop for repairs and can fix it on the trail. I Did a conversion on my older toyota truck to a 2003 vortec V6.Ran fine for 11 years then stopped.Been working on it on and off for 2 years trouble shooting it. Still in process The newer engines electronics make them a pain. Cannot take it to a shop because no one wants to work on a conversions. SO if you go that way try to do the work yourself so you know the systems. Breaking down on the trail with no idea of the systems sucks.I know a lot of people love their V8s and can work on them. Either way you will spent a lot of cash,People who say they did it on the cheap. Did they put a new engine in, did they rebuild it, who's harness did they use. Good luck with what ever you do.I am happy with mr t engine Not in a hurry to go anywhere anyways.

I agree with the potential issues and have loved inline sixes since my old BMW days. I need better acceleration. I do a fair amount of interstate driving on I65 and I20 and if you aren’t at 75 mph when you merge you are in trouble. Probably didn’t help that I installed a Truck Vault where the third row seats were so I could safely store guns when I bird hunt. It adds a lot of weight.

1) Connect and Cruise LT4 Supercharged 6.2L with 10 Speed Transmission
2) Low Miles 6.0L L96 with 6 Speed 6L90 from a wrecked vehicle.
3) Junkyard 5.3L with 4 speed 4l60e.

I am doing #2.

I rebuilt my L96 adding a rv cam and a 6L80. It is unbelievable how much power it has. If I did it again I would leave the motor totally stock just so tuning would be much easier. It will easily cruise 80 on the interstate getting 13-14 mpg. I still have some bugs to work out but love it. I am not to far from B’ham, you are welcome to come see my cruiser.

Thank you! Option 1 might be too much engine for me. 2 sounds good.
