Other than the additional blind spots I'm liking the sliding window deletes. Are you planning to black them out, or match the body color?

More body work. The window delete is turning out to be time consuming, but I want it factory looking and perfect. It's actually getting there and looks really good in person.

I would paint them black so they look like windows and be trolling Ugandans...

The area where the windows were will be white - same as the body. The idea is to resemble a factory option with no windows.

I have no experience with body work, and have never painted a full car - only parts. So, I'm leaving this part to the shop here. Heading to the capital tomorrow to pick up some Ironman bits from the dealer there.

Still haven't found tires. The largest I can find are 285 Kumho's for a whopping $360/piece. Obviously, tires aren't going to be the cheapest part of this build.

Looking into some import options now from Kenya. I'd like to stuff in a 305 or 315.

Very pleased with the results. There are a few Mosquitos in the clear coat (welcome to Africa) so we're re-doing that.

The window delete turned out great. Once we get the black inserts painted white, it'll look great.

Also took this opportunity to chop up the hood. Installed a low-rise scoop from a Subaru, all will be white when finished.

Looking good! I'm feeling the scoop, what year Subaru wrx?

Honestly, no idea. I told the guys to find me a scoop that wasn't that gaudy high version on a WRX. They came back with this.

Temps are frequently in the 90s here, so I figured a little extra air wouldn't hurt. We'll be putting a makeshift filter on the bottom to keep dust out on the long village drives.

What are your plans for wheel security? Will simple lugnut locks be enough?

Cool build.

I think so. I make an effort not to park in places that put it at risk.

Still, it currently has no security system, and all doors are manual. So for now, I'll have to be diligent about checking all doors until I can bring over a security system.

Speaking of wheel locks, I need to order some. Thanks for the reminder!

Thought you guys might enjoy an idea of our working conditions here. The body work is being done out of a local shop called Precision Motors, owned by a Ugandan rally car driver. I'll grab some photos of their make-shift paint booth, it's great.

Goes to show that vehicles and the love of modifying them is a universal theme.

The first few times I came, I would pull out my iPhone and show them some photos from some build threads to give them an idea of where I was headed. Now, every time I'm around the shop, the guys here always ask me to pull out my "white box" and show them photos. Turns out our new pass-time around the shop is thumbing through MUD and passing it around.

This is turning out fantastically!

Nice build, did u remove the exterior door handles before priming ?

Yes. The ones that came on the truck were chrome. We sanded and painted, but I purchased a set of black ones just incase the white paint doesn't last on the chrome, which I suspect it won't.

I just got back from Uganda (Kampala) about 2 weeks back. Was there for 2 weeks - I can imagine how difficult it would be to do a project like that over there... they don't have the facilities, tools nor the parts supplies we enjoy State-side.

Best of luck - jealous of that nice diesel under the hood... I've seen many great Cruisers on my 2 weeks stay in Kampala. I think I took more pics of Cruisers than of anything else while over there... :D

They are everywhere here - made it hard not to buy one.

And yes, big lack of tools/parts here, but we will make up for it in ingenuity I hope. If you ever make it back, give me a shout and come visit Jinja.

Well, everything takes longer in Africa. A few more hours of fitting and the body will be done. I'll get some proper photos when I get home with it.

I am very happy with the rear window delete and the color scheme. Always loved white trucks and black wheels.

Tomorrow I head to the capital for an assortment of seals, filters, etc. At least she will be home and in my own shop.

man, after all this, you'd better keep some hungry bulldogs full-time in the truck...

Great build. Is that split rear window standard or something you built? Looks pretty cool, but not sure of the purpose unless there is a ladder or something that goes over it that would make it a regular point of impact from shoes, tools, etc? Just curious.

Post those pics and send a link! Interior shots would be great also!

Does this truck have dual fuel tanks? Or the center console fridge ?

The split rear window is on almost all 80's I've seen here, if that's what you're asking.

If you're asking about the lack of one, then that was an idea that I came up with. I won't say it hasn't been done before, I just hadn't seen it.

As stated earlier in this thread, the reason for the delete is because I live in Uganda, and theft is very high, especially being white. Eliminating the rear windows is one less access point a would-be theft has to the rear cargo area. I wouldn't define a sliding window on a land cruiser as the most secure. At least here, they tend to rattle loose after a few months on our roads.
