After I cleaned my engine I drove off and I couldn’t go over 2000 rpms. I may have knocked something loose however it stopped The day after that then two days later it wouldn’t let me go over 2000 rpms agay in. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do? I’ve replaced my fuel pump and mass airflow hose.
Look for water in the following places:
Distributor cap
Spark Plug tubes
Every wire connector (pull it apart, blow it out with compressed air, reseal with dielectric grease and put it back together
O2 Sensor wires
Inside the distributor cap, you can spray it with WD40 (not PB blaster) and it will displace the water and it will run better.
You replaced your intake hose. I hope you didn't remove the two screws on the AFM and try to remove the wiring harness by yanking on it.
Yes sir I’m sixteen and a couple of my friends did the same thing with their jeeps they Asia’s just don’t spray it too hard. I didn’t yank the wiring harness I didnt mess with the scerews. Checking the connects atm.

I did the same thing when I first got my cruiser. It wouldn't rev past 2000rpm. Someone here on the forum told me to reset the ECU. I did and it worked a treat. Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnect. It will run rough for a while while the computer re-learns.
Also worth checking is the NSS barrel connector behind the DS front wheel well. Same issue after a water crossing, opened up that connect, stuffed with dialectric grease and problem solved.
The base of the distributor has 2or 3 vent holes that just love to allow water inside. Tuck a rag between the valve cover and the dizzy before using high pressure washers.
I had the exact same thing happen after undercarrage cleaning with pressure washer at car wash to prep for axel rebuild. Didn't spray anything at close range, but took like 2 days before whatever it was dried out and it stopped.
Wet problems; miss is most often water in the distributor, idle, rev is usually wet TPS connector. For whatever reason, the TPS connector is not weather sealed, so cleaning it and applying some silicone grease prevents this type of dramas.
I know this is an old thread, but hoping someone can give me any tips, have a 94 as well and won’t rev past 2000 rpm, doesn’t do it every time but it acts up intermittently, doesn’t matter if it’s flat or uphill, or when it’s parked. Just replaced the plugs, intake hose is new, and it hasn’t rained in over a week where I am so it couldn’t be a wet issue. Hopefully someone can send me in the right direction!
