I have been neglecting it for a few years. Would like to change timing belt (never been done), water pump, thermostat, shocks, etc... It runs great! Just needs some TLC. Also, looking to have it painted as the original paint has badly faded...Any suggestions where I could get this done would be greatly appreciated. I could take it to any mechanic shop but would like to find someone who specializes in landcruisers if at all possible.

Set up a Tech day, buy (have) all the parts in advance, create a checklist and invite everyone over. Provide food and drink.

Talk to Carter (CruiseOrlando), he knows all about Tech sessions :D

I thought the 1FZ motor had a chain. May not want to bother messing with that. If you are going to do shocks, might as well lift it. Right guys?

But then you need bigger tires!

You deffinatly don't have a timing belt to worry about. I'm not in Tampa anymore but they're a few cruiser heads around the area that may show up for a tech session.

Anyway... I think we kind of highjacked the thread. Back to repair shops.... There are a couple of shops in the area that specialize in Toyota stuff, for personal reasons (I backed into the owners building) I try to keep clear of one of them.

Toy House on 301 (near I-4). They understand that Toyota engineers designed their cars to run with Toyota parts, and use them when its in your best interest. On the flip side, they are not shy to run your credit card or tell you what else you need to have done. Charles / Chuck over there is cool.

Get a good grasp on what PM you may have skipped over in the past... maybe do a PHH job rather than worrying about timing and water pump stuff. Your 80 is a 1994, surely you are running lots of old hoses and vacuum lines. Maybe a tune up, and change of fluids is in order first, and then do other things. Like lift and bumpers. (a guy in Orlando is practically giving away an ARB winch bumper)
