I figure I'll call it all out up front. If I miss anything you'll let me know!
I picked up this 92 because it was a good price and the guy was going to send it to charity if he didn't sell it. I'm posting it as it was when I picked it up last night.
This vehicle has had 2 owners before me. The first one owned it from new to until early 2016 and I'm working to get maintenance records. The 2nd owner was a friend of the first and picked it up for his son to drive to college. The son didn't like it and it sat for 5 months, driven occasionally when the dad's new Volvo was in the shop. So...More often than not.
The good:
-214,xxx miles
-It's pretty clean for a 92. The carpet is overall excellent. The DS footwell is a little tired.
-It runs strong. I would drive it anywhere on the road. (See "what your going to change anyways")
-It doesn't leak much. A drip a week from looking at where he parks it. The diff is a little weepy, but no drips. It looks like maybe the main seal.
-For not being cleaned the engine bay is pretty clean.
-The birfs look exactly as they should.
-Little rust
-Unmolested and from what I can tell (and judging from where the PO's live and my conversation with them) never been wheeled. (See the Range Roer commercial I posted in chit-chat)
-The brakes are great. Really. Better than I ever had in my 95 or 97.
-Glass is good
-Toyota Manual
-The teeny little tires have lots of tread.
EDIT:
-The CDL works and low gear is great.
The bad:
-I took pictures, so check there.
-Front bumper caught a corner this year and removed the bumperette and cracked a corner of the fiberglass flare.
-What's up with that DS wheel? I scraped at it and it's a film on the wheel and some other places on the body. I'm not sure what they were driving in, but it looks like it will clean off.
-A little rust on bottom edge of PS rear door.
-The power steering groans a little when cold. I think it may just need to be bled and fluid replaced.
-The hood has fading. Roof looks good.
-The window coat hanger mod. Apparently the DS rear window doesn't go down...Or up...Or something. The 1st owner "wasn't very handy" so instead of fixing it he did the coat hanger mod. I'm sure that search will turn something up.
-PS mirror is wobbly.
Things you're going to change anyways
-Tires are cute
-Bumper should be upgraded
-Those steps are amazing. They are not sliders.
-There is a lot of sway in the suspension. I'm guessing it's original.
If I think of more I'll edit this post and mark the edits. I've only driven it a couple times so far.
I need $2,800 to recoup my cost, that includes a little rescue and write up fee.
My intention is to dig into it more next week and do a quality fix of what I can without a big investment. As my investment goes up I'll change the price accordingly. At some point I'll probably either love it or get to the point I can't make money on it, so it may get pulled when that happens.
I'll add under carriage pictures later. It was raining this morning and I didn't want to crawl around in the wet.
