Need Some Help with New Tire and Rim Sizing...will they fit?

Just wondering if someone can double check my numbers and help me understand…
My ’91 HDJ81 came with stock 15” rims. 15x7JJ(10) I believe is what it reads on the rims.

I’m not sure what the JJ or the (10) is?

I’m looking to upgrade to a 16” Steel Rim and move to a 265/75R16 or 285/75 R16 Mud Tire.

My questions are:
What is the ‘stock’ back spacing that came on the ’91 HDJ81 and can I stick with the same back spacing on the new rim?
Also, if I move to a 16” rim, what does the width have to be? My original rims were 7” but I believe if I go to a 16” rim I have to go to a:
7-8” rim for the 265/75R16 or a
7.5-9” rim for the 285/75R16
Is that correct?

I’m going to go with the BF2 KM2 MT I think and I want to stay skinny at about 10.5”.

Thanks for your help guys!

Jeff

the wide the wheel it depends on the tire that you want to run .. for 285/75 8 - 9" wide wheel seems in my book the best overall range ..

I run the 285 set up also and thinks its the best of both worlds. 10l/100k on the highway with A/C crankin. but your city driving tends to chug a lil more. Averaging around 575km and then low fuel light comes on. hope this help

What rims do you have, 16"? What's the offset?

Mine is a 1991 HDJ81 too.

I replaced the stock rims with 16x8 steel wheels with 285/75/16 the offset is -25mm and the tires are just a bit outside of the flare. I will either have to get -18mm offset wheels or get wider flares if I want to pass the inspection.

You can run 265/75/16 on a 16x7 wheel perfectly. I know people here that go a lot to the desert and usually run low pressure that always use a wheel one size narrower than the minimum recommended by the tire maker. I've seen a 315/75/16 mounted on a 16x7 wheel. The downside is that the center of the tire tends to wear faster.

Anyway, I think 265/75/16 is a great size for a non lifted or moderately lifted 80. Of course they won't look as nice as a bigger one (in my opinion) and you won't get as much height, but I think all the rest are advantages.

Great info, thank you.
What is the offset on the factory 15x7 rim?
Can I keep the same offset if I go to a 16x7 rim?

I don't think there is a problem but I want to be sure before I spend the $.

Thanks again!

I think the stock 15x7 wheel has 0 offset, but let me check as I have the original spare wheel somewhere and I think the offset is marked.

I'll check and tell you. And yes, there are 16x7 wheels with 0 offset too.
