Just getting prepared to get a price quote from my Toyota dealer on my 90K-100K service. From past reading on this site I believe it is time for Timing Belt...as indicated on the Toyota 90K service checklist.

I seem to recall a number of other "get it done when doing the timing belt" comments...serpentine belt/water pump and????

My dealer is a small town Toyota dealer and does not service many (any?) other Land Cruisers...any other items I should have addressed other than the above and other Toyota 90K service items?

BTW...the dealership does service a significant number of Toyotas...just not many LCs. Would it be better to search out a dealer that may have more LCs in there service "portfolio"?...or are these maintenance items pretty similar between vehicles??

Seems like the price of above can vary between $500-$1500-$2000??? Best estimate of what "reasonable" price I might expect/look for???

Thanks...Tom R

The full service check is pretty comprehensive but think most agree that Timing Belt, Water Pump, Seals, front wheel bearing repack is minimum on that list.

I'm in Austin, and found some local guys who will sell the whole timing kit for $272 (parts manufacturer makes Toyotas parts, there's just no logo on the box) & charge 5.5 hours @ $65/hr to replace the timing belt. That's $630! do your research and find your parts and then just find a reputable local mechanic to do the work. Figure at those kind of savings you could drive to the nearest town to save that kind of money. Best of luck.

Get Factory toyota parts... for warranty purposes...

I had CDAN source me everything including s belt, tensioner, all the seals/gaskets/ water pump, also did new plugs etc at the same time. Total bill was around $450 IIRC...

Logo on the box better be Denso or Aisin, etc. then. The old "oh, these guys make the parts for X" is the oldest sales tactic in the book.

Get OEM. Someone just posted about a Carquest water pump failing and taking their motor with it.

Totally agree. It was Aisin he mentioned. They're legit guys. LCspec.com

Do any of you know where I can get a legit Serpentine belt? They want $75 for a Toyota genuine one.

Over paying and is it necessary.

I think I'm over paying the dealer with the maintenance. I saw what everyone was recommending and took the list to the dealer. The total bill came out to be about 3k. Is that right?

I have reviewed all the "smilies" and "post icons" and can't find the proper one to depict what the dealer is trying to do here.

its far too much. add up the materials, less than $1000. so he is charging for more than 20 hours labor. also, diff fluids is listed twice. go find an honest mechanic.

your total bill for reasonable 90k service items should be less than $2000 i believe.
