Ahh, but that is how we built it, yes, I know I'm rather rough on it, but I do believe in testing it to the limits.
Maybe you should have considered a snorkel, or pontoons?

This must have been tough to build with hand tools, yep thats the road right through that notch.

Rusty, did ya ever figure out where the death wobble was coming from?

Not really. Once I got on smoother roads and accelerated straight through 30MPH under full throttle it wasn't an issue. I had planned to get to Truckee and call AAA to tow the 40 home but I made it back without doing that.

I'm 99% sure I just scrubbed off enough wheel weights on the rocks to cause the problem, everything in the steering looks good. When I get a chance I'll pull the rest of the weights and throw some airsoft pellets in each tire. Stay tuned for the results of that experiment.

glad you made it home safely, I picked up a nasty vibration along the way, twisted drive shaft and a whole bunch of lose nuts and bolts, it was a work out, all is well, just time to check all over before next trip.

What a long strange trip that was. For once I get to run the whole trail. Crossing at Cisco on Sat night was not an option. Checking on dream flows it was higher than 305cfs and could have been as high as 315. Even the first two crossings had some pucker power. It is very nice to wheel with guys that know what they are doin in and out of their rig. Ya, even you John(hammertime). I think one of the photos with the large rooster tail of trail coming out from behind the truck says it all. Thats Ok, your motto should be Git er done. Even your :princess: was tough as nails. She was walking the trail in her barefeet!! At one time Shawn had to bail as the spotter or become a hood ornament. I had to laugh-- never seen Shawn move that fast. Oh well we survived. Kieth the Blotcher would have made it no problem. The longer wheelbase was a definate advantage. I have to agree that the trail is getting harder. All was well with the the Gods and the:princess: when I got home. Where are we going next month???:steer: I took some pics but am to retarded :idea:to post them. Sorry. Seee ya at the mtg.

It was a trip to remember, but they all are. I think Hammer Time is a good nickname for John:grinpimp:
We need to get him into some gears so he can be a little more laid back on the trail.

I agree that the Blotch rig would have walked through the trail. Keith is a :princess::flipoff2:

Crap! He knows where I live:eek:

Im kicking myself for NOT going. We had this thing for the wifes job, function thing, and a crap load of work and this....and that....
In the end, I should have just GONE!

Glad you guyz had a blast! The pics look awesome!
John is not friendly to his rig! that is a FACT! The man is FEARLESS wheelin that thing. Has NO REGARD for breakage what so ever.

Silverback is much the same and is now wheeling again with a 350 under the hood!

NOT my style...I dont like to break $hit.

K

Good pics. Looked like you had good weather and everyone appears to be smiling :)

Ah, come on now, I do have some regard for breakage, when shawn asked me to get winched up one area vs taking a chance on breaking something, I waited. Truth be told, I don't have a clue what I'm doing out there, I just do what feels right, I see what I think is a line that I can get up at the time and roll with it, the picture does say a lot, so I guess the handle "Hammertime" is gonna stick no matter how much I argue it. I can't disagree with Keith, I am not gentle with my equipment, but at the same time we (Dan and I) build it to withstand a lot of abuse, I know how I drive, too much skinny pedal, maybe one day I will get the gears... In the mean time, I do what I do, it didn't break and it got me home in one piece.
I do have a lot of admiration for my princess, she was awesome on the trail, and excited about hitting the next one in October.
nuf-said! see ya at the mtg...
