at the main fuse box under the hood is the MAIN wire. it is white.
it comes from the alternator, and ends up at the 80 amp bolted on fuse. then all the ohter wires bridge off that.

well, that white wire, and the metal its bolted to are getting SMOKIN HOT! sssssssss! enuf to melt the white shield.

why is this happening?

this is what i know:

the alt is putting out 14.5V a tad high, but acceptable. (5th alt this trucks had, shoulda got a new one and shoulda rebuilt the stock one)

the 80 amp had a bit of corrosion on it. so i replaced it.
the unboltable fuse on the driverside, that connects to the alt, checks out fine.

only stored codes were STA signal and some other that escapes me at the moment.

i checked for voltage drop in the circut, and found there was tons of drop in the EFI circut.

Now, some brief history:
a few years back, i was having tons of electrical issues, tons of codes. tons of symptoms. i was stumped.
turns out after 10 years of 4wheeling the snot out of this truck caused corrosion in the main EFI harness.
i removed the harness and found most all the factory lame ground splices wre loose. and 48 bent, broken, chaffed or corroded wires.
so i fixed em all up, and the truck was fine for 2-3 years.

this is where im at:
i again, removed the same EFI harness, to check for new problems, none found yet.
and now, im tearing into the drvers harness that goes into the cab, connects with the alt, headlites and coil.

as you can tell this project is not fun. id much rather be breaking driveshats or smashing my bed into a tree.

so,
what the hell is the problem????

has anyone had a similar issue?
WTF?

and

i found a part that has some crappy wires on it.
it a condensor.
i dont think it has anything to do with this problem.
but im gonna replace it anyway...

Have you checked to see if you are floating voltage on the ground strap or any other grounds? Anytime I have seen burning wires, the culprit was always a bad/non existent grounding path in the circuit.

You might want to throw a meter on the ground straps or grounds that relate to the EFI and see what is going on.

the grounds are ok...

one of these days i'll fix it...

the wires were burned up from a fire that happened before i bought the truck.
shoulda mentioned that earlier.

Yeah, that could have caused some issues ( :
