I'm looking at an '89 FJ62 with 239k on the clock. I had the owner take it to a shop for a compression test. I talked to the mechanic (FJ is out of state) and all cylinders were 140, but #5 which came in at 135...

From what I've read this is good (only variance is less than 7), and it probably just needs a valve job? I just wanted to hear from some of the experts on this if you don't mind. It's a mildly scary concept of buying a truck based on pictures! (I'd be flying up to drive it back).

Thanks!

Daniel

Sounds fine, ive never seen a compression test come up all the same (and ive done alot) I doubt that all the others were exactly "140" prob 142 138 etc. Course of action... drive it away

Thank you!

Yeah, I agree that 5 psi isn't much cause for concern.
With 240k, you're probably more concerned with
rust, maintenance, cosmetics and interior.
Also, price- if it's a good deal (around here, that seems to be
3k or less) then you can justify a valve job or transmission rebuild in the next few years.
