My recent roadworthy 87 HJ 60 with a story...

There is a bit of a story to this 1987 HJ 60 that wasn't meant for me but here goes !

A friend was talking about getting another vehicle for his hang gliding and going out at night instead of taking the work truck.
As any of you would advise a friend so did I.
We found this one with low milage 270,000km. Though there was gas in the tank but had not been started and the rear 1/4 panels and rockers were '' pooched''. I assured him it would all work out ! and if he ever changed his mind I would give him what he had into it.
After some welding I had replaced the rear 1/4 panels with steel and did a poor fibreglass job on the fender wells over the steel.
The rocker gards are stainless though.
Apart from that the front end is almost mint ! The po had put $4000. into the front end and under hood. replacing and rebuilding.

Very nice. I've always been curious about the HJ's, never owned a diesel but seems like it would be cool. I've seen a few Canadian cruisers end up for sale in my area, but no HJ's...maybe one day.

Any big plans for this one?

I must say I do prefer standard but driving this automatic is pretty sweet !

So in the shop it went and later with a lighter wallet she came out certified.
I Had a compression test with these results : #1 400, #2. 360, #3. 370 #4. 360 #5 330, #6 370.

There is really not much to address now !
Repairing the dash, matching the paint and getting the radio to work.
Painting the rockers ( stainless ) to match the paint.
The Doors close like new
the rear upper and lower are in real nice original shape.
she has some power also more so than the 3b. and the ride is smooth.
Oh and she's 24 volt !

I'll try to keep her ''Clean'' no mods and keep and eye on the heriditary cancer thats in the family. I've got a can of rust check that I will be spraying into all the factory holes, I'll remove the rear panel in the lower tail gate to spray it down inside.

I'm a fan of the standard wagons and 40's but on another note this has been quite nice to drive.
It if does not sell then we will use it for some long distance trips with maybe a canoe on the roof or something.
As for '' big plans'' I think the wagons are great, you can fit a 4'x 8' sheet of drywall or plywood into them with the hatch closed !
MY ''big plans'' are to get my 42 and 45 on the road. I sure like what the guys come up with with their wagons though.
Some of them look real sweet !
