Hey guys was hoping someone might be able to help me figure out what could be possibly wrong w/ my truck. Its an 86 4R 22RE and just the other day I started to notice that the truck will start to make a humming sound once I go past 25 mph. The sound is consistent but not consistent. It sounds like it is coming from the front passenger side somewhere. I checked the wheels and surrounding areas but have not been able to determine what the issue could be. Does this sound like an issue anyone of you have experienced before? Suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

Make sure both hubs are either IN or OUT.
Jack it up and check the wheel bearings, brakes, and CV boots (2ndGen)
Change the diff fluid.

The sound is consistent but not consistent

Sorry about the miss typing. I meant to say that the sound is consistent but not constant. It starts to make noise after going past 25 mph upto 45 mph. After the truck slows down under 25 mph the noise stops. I will check the wheel bearings and brakes tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for suggestions.

Wheel bearings or CV is most likely. I had same problem, and it was CV. Does it knock hard around sharp corners?

second the wheel bearings definatly chek those out

well an 86 will have manual hubs. so if they are locked in, the CV joint and front axle may be nosiey.
but since most people drive with them in 'free' position, i wouldnt suspect the noise emmiting from this area.

perhaps the speedo cable is making this sound.

mine did. drove me nuts. finally disconnected the fawker and upgraded to a electronic speedometer.
