yesterday I was driving on a flat road at about 45mph with my 85 Toyota 4x4 pickup and it started to slow down and when I pressed the gas it just kept going slower then when I came to a stop it completely died and when we checked under the hood it was not smoking and we checked all the fluids and they were all full and we tried to jump start it and that did not help then we tried to push start it and when I released the clutch the back tires locked up. The reason I think the engine seized is because the tires lock up when being push started, the engine wont turn over all I get is a click. I also recently replaced the clutch and I was wondering if that had any thing to do with it locking up. The car right now is completely stock with 160000 miles.

Can you turn the engine over with a wrench? If so, then you have an electrical or fuel problem but to be honest, that is the strangest thing I have ever heard a 22r do and there have been some doosies. More info please.

Hay everyone, thanks for the replies. I'll try to elaborate a little more. My nephew was the one who was driving the truck when it stopped running so this is all second hand info that I tried to pump out of him. Here is the scenario, driving on a flat level road at approx. 45 mph while pressing on the accelerator the truck starts to slow down press more on accelerator it bogs (no acceleration) down and slow down, no strange noises or sounds no steam, he said that all the dash lights came on. He coasts off into a parking lot. He had someone try to jump start it and all they got was a single click when the key is turned. He tried to push start and when he released the clutch the back wheels just skidded and did not turn. He gets the truck back to the house and I tried banging on the starter & alt.and still only a click, tried to pull start it in reverse with my cruiser and the wheels only skidded. I don't think is a fuel issue as the engine would still turn over, could it possibly be a tranny issue? The tranny shifts thru all the gears as does the transfer case and it does roll when in neutral. There are no engine leaks, coolant or tranny. I have never herd of a motor seizing without the temp. rising or making some weird noise. If anybody has any specific questions please fire away.

Cheers, Cliff

One time, I went muddin' because I had new tires! Long story short, the truck sat in the mud hole for 7 hours. Once we got the truck out, it ran fine for about 7 miles, then it just died off slowly like you stated. The cat was clogged (guess what clogged it:)). There was no way it would start after that. Take the exhaust loose from the cat and see what happens. But if the motor siezed, you'd know it!

Oh, I'm gonna miss that truck...

What gear were you trying to pull start the truck in? Not sure with a truck but with most vehicles you want 2nd or 3rd. Usually 1st will just skid the tires on any vehicle (well except my old Escort). My guess is the engine is fine, the alternator was not charging so the battery is totally dead and as your nephew was driving it the battery voltage dropped so low it wouldn't run anymore. You get a click because the battery voltage is too low to let the starter turn. The battery is so low that hooking up jumper cables won't do much until they have been there for probably 10+ minutes and given time to charge the battery (if the battery will even take a charge).

That's my guess as to what's wrong, just a bad alternator and/or battery. To verify the engine isn't seized pull it in 5th gear, just so see it turn over, it'll probably turn over plenty easily.

Good Luck...

Hay everybody, Thanks for your inpute and suggestions tried them all , well the engine was fried. I am having a rebuilt installed this weekend. When I dropped the truck off at the engine swap place the mechanic tested the vacuum advance, he got an O.K. reading out of the forward nipple (closest to radiator) and no reading from the rear nipple with a little bicycle pump looking device, now I need a new vacuum advance @ $141.00 (local Toyota dealer price, if I would of known I would of rug up Cdan.). I am a little bit suspicious about this. Any one know if this would be some kind of scam, or is he straight shooting with me. I am a bit of a newbie concerning this subject and would appreciate your tech knowledge / impute about it.
Thanks in advance, Cliff
