83 FJ45 Interior Light Drama!

Okay, new to this forum. Recently picked up the old girl off my dad.
The interior light that sits under the foam dash isn't working. I've run power to the light and can get it to illuminate but once I close the doors the light still stays on. Now the door switchs are suppose to close the circuit when pressed in but yet the don't. Any advise would be helpful. Cheers

Since it appears you have just run a hit wire separate from the original circuit the light will stay on all the time. The door switch will OPEN the circuit with the door shut to turn the light off. You will need to trouble shoot the original circuit to discover why it would not turn on and repair that issue to make the light work correctly. Start with checking for a fuse blown, if there is one in that circuit. Then check the wiring. Since you know the light is good you probably have a broken wire (an open) or a bad ground (again an open). Check both doors switches. Also will the light operate with the light switch?

I can't seem to find where the power wire runs into the fuse box. It all disappears into the loom and changes colours. It would help if I had the cover for the fuse box. The light doesn't have a switch also. I have also checked both door switches and they seem fine and ground. Cheers for the reply

The dash light should come on when the head lamps are on. I also think it would turn on when the head lamp knob is rotated. You should consider down loading a manual from Trollhole. It will have a wiring diagram in it to help chase the wires through the loom.

Yep that light should have no relationship to the door switches. It comes on with the dash lights in the speedo cluster.
