OK-so this isn't a thread about plastic winch rope.

My 8274 needs a new winch cable. Since it's on my 40, it maybe gets 4 outings per year so the expense of synthetic winch line seems unjustified.

Normally the 8274 carries 5/16 cable, but I am considering running 3/8 cable which is a little stronger. Does anyone know how much 3/8 it will hold? I'm thinking 125 feet but don't know. Any downside to this approach?

If it will hold 125 feet-I'm going to swap the cable from my M12000 and run synthetic on that. I saw that there is a higher temp version of the synthetic line available-I'll use that to avoid the cable heating issue.

If you really think I should use the synthetic on my 8274 let me know that as well.

Considering the weight delta synthetic might be worth the extra cost in spite of the level of use.

The synthetic is well worth it.

No little snags of wire to stick and stab you, much more safe to use, coils like rope. I have used both and would never go back to cable.

I have a brand new cable that I pulled off my 8274 when I got it new. $50 plus the ride if you want it.

Thanks Toy350, I'm covered.

No prob. What did you go with? I am running 125' of 3/8" Masterpull line and have great luck with it. I have seen quite a few people bash Masterpull, but I'm not sure why. Maybe I am one of the lucky few
