Greetings! My first Forum post for guidance. I have an '82 Venezuelan FJ43 with a "jumpy" Accelerator Rod issue (see attached). Vehicle does not take bumps or potholes well. Accelerator Rod pops out of the firewall bracket often. Local Toyota mechanic has attempted to modify the tip and adjusted the bracket, but not much luck. I can fix on the fly, but getting stranded in some tough spots. Would love some help on additional fixes or a parts resource for those knowledgeable in this area.

1. There is a special clip that captures the ball stud you currently have held in place with wire at the carburetor end.
2. The bracket on the firewall is supposed to have rubber isolator bushings on the mounting bolts. They would hold the bracket out a little further onto the torque rod.

The combination of those two things should solve your problem.

Get with @ToyotaMatt
He has/had some linkage that will work in place of that ball and socket stuff
He had these parts and more….

Both Mark and ToyotaMatt can cover you. Mark is spot on with his comments ( as always).

A small cotter pin clip from ACE hardware can get you by on the carburetor side for now - what comes with the assembly is that style cotter pin in the correct size to allow the correct tolerance.

But, the firewall side, that's a problem - and it looks like someone altered the socket in attempt to hold it into place. That in particular to me should be treated as serious, as it's unpredictable - leaving you in a situation where you can't control your throttle.

@devo I'm drooling over that all metal LandCrusier badge, that's sweet.

i made this below several years ago for 2 main reasons

- linkage is a complex topic , a mechanical ballet of harmony that still fascinated me to this day , but if left un-maintained , it can all causer a gad pedal to stick or stay wide open

the balls and sockets pop apart easy and bracke clean and this here below are my way now , i concluded the fully synthetic food service grade stuff here is light years above what mr t had ,,,

this is good !

the below Igram Reels show all the various set ups assembles

turn on the audio

i created the as my Professional Mechanical ArtForm

in all reality these are better the more you watch , they show the flow and each parts correctly hook up and connect

Greetings Mark!

Thanks for your guidance here. I am not having much luck with ToyotaMatt at the present time. Perhaps he is traveling or very busy. My Accelerator Rod is slipping more and more, and I would like to identify and locate replacement parts ASAP. I have looked on VintageTeqParts.com and your link; however, parts seems to be out of stock. I have purchased a small cotter clip for now, but this is the least of my worries. "Hawk Eye" needs your help! Glad to link up by phone as this may be more helpful. Let me know what works best for you.

Randall
