FOR SALE 1981 FJ40, near Minneapolis, MN $2600
This FJ40 needs a good home and is ready for a frame up.
THE GOOD:
-124,000 miles, 2F engine, 4 speed, front disc brakes, power steering, ambulance doors
-it's an 81, with an Old Man Emu lift and nice 31’s
-it has around $7000 in new parts installed over the last 10,000 miles. The larger items include new clutch, new but used transfer case, OME lift, Con-Fer skid plates for spring u-bolts, u joints, rear wheel bearings, tie rod ends, tires, alternator, etc
-have original manual, jack, tool kit, etc. (tool kit bag is a mess)
-has shield design steering wheel, gray interior, and steel white spoke wheels only found on the newer FJs
-has power steering that was installed in late 90s. Truck was not purchased with power steering
-the frame is solid
-I have maintenance records for the last 40,000 miles
THE BAD
-truck is currently not running, it’s been in storage for last 4 years
-rear drums need to be rebuild due to corrosion – pads are new at 113,000
-brake pedal is soft....air or master cylinder issue. (master cylinder isn’t very old)
-exhaust system needs to be replaced
-original radio is missing
-previous owner screwed a lock box to the center console
-truck is rusty due to life in Minnesota and nearly every panel on the truck needs replaced or repaired
-the rear of the tub is really rough
-back door lowers are shot, fronts might be saved with some lowers
-the original hood is shot, but I have a clean hood from a 78 which is the same as an 81 I believe
-top sides are repairable, but bad enough I was planning on buying new ones
-the fiberglass part of the top is good
-windshield needs to be replaced
